I have received e-mails from various “Who’s Who” publications in the past, and have warned about the danger of scams that offer to include your name in a printed book and give you a certificate in exchange for a sum of money, or in some cases simply disclosing information that can be used for marketing purposes. Today I received an e-mail that at least was targeted to my field. It came from the generic-sounding e-mail address [email protected]. Here’s the text... Read more

As far as I know, around the globe the only two people/groups that did not participate in the “Don’t Burn A Qur’an Day” held this past weekend are the folks at Westboro Baptist Church (who’ll burn anything) and Alex Stewart in Brisbane, who is down to a pack a day and is apparently trying to quit: When we consider how hard it can be for a person or group to back down from doing something they’ve committed to, we should... Read more

Tia Lynn at Abandon Image posted some really disturbing verses. Every Christian should read this post and reflect on the issues these troubling verses raise. Read more

Here’s the estimated number of people who participated in “Don’t Burn A Qur’an Day” (most of whom are still continuing to observe it): Somewhere in the vicinity of 6,865,942,376 people refrained from burning Qur’ans over the past 24 hours. This was a major global event! I brought a copy of the Qur’an with me to Sunday school today – or more precisely, Arberry’s English translation. We spent some time discussing Islam, differences between Islam and Christianity, and the possibility of expressing... Read more

While the good news circulates that Terry Jones decided to call off his planned burning of the Qur’an, many Christians bloggers have gone ahead with their plans to blog about the Qur’an in response. Randy Olds shared one of my favorite verses from the Qur’an, Sura 2:62: “Those who believe (i.e. Muslims), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians (i.e. Mandaeans),- any who believe in God and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall... Read more

While others may or may not hold “Burn A Qur’an Day”, I suggest that the rest of us hold “Don’t Burn a Qur’an Day.” There’s no need to register. Just participate by doing the following: in the next 24 hours, refrain from burning any Qur’ans. I anticipate that, when everyone who did not burn a Qur’an is counted, this event will have had billions of participants in every country on the planet. The hatemongers won’t even come close. Just you... Read more

This video from CNN is worth watching: http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/apps/cvp/3.0/swf/cnn_416x234_embed.swf?context=embed&videoId=us/2010/09/09/dnt.muslim.christian.welcome.wmc Also on CNN is a piece about Qur’an-burning which explains to non-Muslims that for Muslims, the Qur’an is the pre-existent Word of God, as Jesus is for Christians, and so the equivalent for Christians would be if someone burned not a Bible, but Jesus. The article also explains that the Jewish and Christian Scriptures are also sacred for Muslims. Read more
