I will be working through some screen and audio captures I made during my class on the Bible a while back, looking to see whether some or all of it may be useful when I teach a version of that course online next summer, as well as perhaps for students taking the course during the regular semester. Here’s the first upload, which is from half a class session on the Psalms. Feedback is appreciated! Read more

The NEH has issued a press release, and so presumably it is OK to announce publicly that the NEH has awarded a grant for the second stage of our project on the Mandaean Book of John, to add a commentary to the translation and Mandaic text that resulted from our past two years of work. Fred Clark does a wonderful job of reviewing Tim Stafford’s book Miracles (which I also recently reviewed) by relating it to the classic science fiction show The X-Files. Here is one of my favorite quotes from the piece, which is very helpful and insightful: Reading Miracles, I kept feeling like AD Walter Skinner on The X-Files, listening to another astonishing report from Agent Fox Mulder. I kept wanting to ask the question Skinner always asked, “What does Agent Scully think about this?” Click through... Read more
