On May 24, 2021, Bob Dylan turns 80. In honor of this occasion, I have put together a list of what I believe are the 80 greatest songs that Dylan has composed and performed over his nearly 60-year career. (To see what I mean by “composed and performed,” go here).  Starting on May 8, 2021, I began an eight-part series of posts on these 80 songs. We have already gone through songs (1) 80 through 71, (2) 70 through 61, (3) 60 through 51, (4) 50 through 41,  (6) 40 through 31,  (6) 30 through 21, and (7) 20 through 11.  Today we end the count with songs 10 through 1:

What follows is a recorded performance of each song followed by the lyrics.  If I could not find a recording of a Dylan performance (or at least a good one), I included a cover version.  For six of the songs, I post multiple performances of each.  For “Blowing in the Wind” I include both Dylan’s album performance as well as the more popular cover version by Peter, Paul, and Mary.  There are two postings of “Tangled Up In Blue.” One is from the album Blood on the Tracks (1974) and the other is Dylan’s live performance of the song during the Rolling Thunder Revue in 1975.   For “Visions of Johanna” I post the album version from Blonde on Blonde (1966) as well as a live rendition from 2000.  Not surprisingly, the presentation of “Mr. Tambourine Man” includes The Byrd’s top 40 cover as well as Dylan’s original recording of it on Bringing It All Back Home (1965).  For “My Back Pages” I post the iconic 1992 Madison Square Garden live performance with Dylan and several of his friends (George Harrison, Roger McGuinn, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, and Neil Young) as well as the original recording released on the album Another Side of Bob Dylan (1964). And finally, for the #1 song, “Like a Rolling Stone,” I post both the album recording from Highway 61 Revisited (1965) and the live version from the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, when Dylan went electric.
