The Rev. Shively Smith Joins the Wesley Faculty as Professor of New Testament May 1, 2014
On July 1, the Rev. Shively T. J. Smith will join the Wesley Theological Seminary faculty to teach New Testament studies.
“I am delighted to join Wesley’s faculty and contribute to our shared vocation of equipping leaders for the church and the world and advancing theological education,” said Smith. “From my initial visit, the community has shown itself to be a hospitable and affirming space and I look forward to the opportunities, experiences and many teachable moments that are to come.”
Smith has actively worked in ministry and academia for more than 15 years. She has taught courses in New Testament and Biblical Greek, among others. She has served as faculty for a variety of special programs, such as the United Methodist Course of Study Program and the Certificate in Theological Studies Program at the Candler School of Theology. Within the Society of Biblical Literature, she serves on the Committee for the Status of Women in the Profession and is a member of the Women in the Biblical World Steering Committee. She is ordained in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and has served as director of Christian Education at Greater Smith Chapel AME in Atlanta, Georgia.
