We all need friends. The reality is, you cannot “make” friends, as they are a gift from God. As we trust in the Love of God, He responds by sending friends at times when we need them most. Friends cannot replace God, as they have limitations and their love is never faultless or complete. They are needed on our journey towards the unlimited and unconditional love of God. Let’s be thankful for the friends God sends. Read more

“But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you” (1 Peter 5:10). I want to draw your attention to the specific word, “strengthen.” It is the exact same word that Jesus spoke to Peter before the testing he experienced at the hands of Satan. “When you come through the fiery trial” Jesus told him, “strengthen your brothers.” And... Read more

It’s time to check your posture: Are your hands in the air? True worship requires surrender. Christians used to talk a lot about surrender. They called it the consecrated life, and they sang about it in hymns such as “I Surrender All,” “Have Thine Own Way” or “Wherever He Leads, I’ll Go.” These songs fueled the missionary movements of the past. Today? Not so much. In many American churches, “altars” are a strange concept. They are referred to as “stages,”... Read more

Scientists say that the sun is a self supporting ball of pure energy derived from continuous thermonuclear reactions at its core. The power unleashed in those reactions is so awesome that theoretically the sun could shine for billions of years with no appreciable change in size or radiance. How like God to set something in motion that would reflect His endless preoccupation with life eternal. All creation models the Creator. Like the sun His love is ceaseless and constant. Everlasting means... Read more

Read more

The great mystery of life is that those who lose their lives will gain them. If we cling to relationships, we may lose them, but when we are non-possessive in relationships, friendships abound. Seeking fame does not produce a legacy, but if we give our lives to God and others, we will be remembered long after our death. Giving away our lives for others is the greatest of all pursuits. This will gain us our lives. Read more

Writing can be a spiritual discipline to help us concentrate and be in touch with the deeper stirrings of our hearts. It can bring clarity to our minds, help process life experiences, or draw out artistic expression. These often become recorded steps in our journey. Quite often a painful, or frustrating day can be “redeemed” by writing about it. Writing can bring life to us and to others who might read what we write. Read more

If you have ever gone on an extended fast, you know it can be a life changing experience. There are many types of fasts. The king of Nineveh along with the people of his nation fasted three days from food and water. God heard the sincerity in their repentance and spared their nation, making them an example of the power inherent in fasting and prayer (see Luke 11:32)  A fast can be a powerful tool to help stimulate revival or,... Read more

I was listening in the background to a friend praise a man he had recently met. He was obviously quite enamored with this individual, and rightly so. His description went something like this: “A great guy, a wonderful Christian, loving husband, faithful, great father, loves to spend time with his children, very successful at work and in his finances. He’s a great boss, president of the local Chamber of Commerce, an elder in his church, hates smoking and drinking, not... Read more

As a Christian in ministry for over 30 years I have become an astute observer of human nature and behavior. The older and more mature I become, the more I understand the scripture in John 2:23-25: “…many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did. But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.” Scripture... Read more
