Pentecost is Sunday, May 23. Here are four reasons we should celebrate the Spirit’s outpouring. I’ve often wondered why we tend to ignore the historic events of Acts 2. We celebrate Christmas for weeks, and we pack as many people as possible into our churches on Easter Sunday. But in our smug evangelical subculture, Pentecost is just an add-on, if it’s noticed at all. We can take it or leave it. Many pastors will make no mention of the Holy... Read more

Beware when you ask a question of Jesus and He answers with a question. It usually means He wants to change something–most likely, you. Jesus loved to ask questions, especially with the Law guys. I’m after mercy, not religion.[1] During Bible college and seminary days we were taught to recite Scripture like cowboys in a fast draw contest: John 3:16; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:8-9. I made a painful discovery in my journey—wherever the most Scripture was preached was the least amount of Agape! One day while watching the news, a reporter was interviewing a person in line to see the movie The Last Temptation of Christ when a middle-aged woman walked up to him.... Read more

Authority and obedience are a two way street. Without mutual submission we can have extreme control on one end and doormat behavior on the other. To be great in the Kingdom you must rule as a servant, and willingly submit to others for the fullness of God’s desires. Likewise, no one is a doormat in the Kingdom of God, but is in formation for growth into the wisdom and stature of Christ. Read more

Father, Your will be done as our life is in your hands. Life is much more than food, wealth, or health, yet you provide them as you will. Our wellness does not rest in human hands. Our hope is in you alone. You are our life, our food, our wealth, and our health. Give us the strength to weather the storms as you fill every need. We endlessly pursue you, and follow every step you choose for us.  Read more

The spark of His divine nature can never be extinguished, and so the uprising of hope swells again. The darkness is dispelled as His light comes forth from the deep. The deep calls to the deep and the answer comes. Read more
