Second, the Olympics are adding further credence to the cultural notion that sex should have a predator/prey dynamic. In this worldview, a person is not to be pursued in their best interest or for a relationship. They are to be hunted to satisfy your appetite. Indeed, we are seeing more of this perspective as we increasingly delink sex from marriage. For example, several years ago the band Maroon 5 released a popular song called, “Animal.” The song’s opening lyrics are: “Baby, I’m preying on you tonight–Hunt you down eat you alive–Just like animals, animals, like animals.” Moreover, the music video of the song features Adam Levine, the band’s lead singer, playing a butcher who stalks a young woman like an animal.
