7 Reflections from Hurricane Irma

7 Reflections from Hurricane Irma September 12, 2017

1) There is Still Good in the World

FL1

Despite all of the hate, bigotry, racism and ugliness we’ve witnessed in recent months. I saw during the preparations for Hurricane Irma that America at it’s core is a beautiful country with amazing people who love and care about one another. I saw some of the best of America when I saw stories of Floridians scrambling to prepare their houses for the hurricane help one another with supplies and saw one story on the news of one Floridian woman breaking down in tears because the store she went to ran out of electric generators. She needed an electric generator for her ailing mother who was on an oxygen tank and needed the electric generator for her medical needs. One Floridian man stepped up and offered his electric generator to her.

It’s always beautiful to witness the mercy, compassion, love and caring we have and should highlight, reward and encourage in our neighborhoods, offices and schools. It was also heartwarming and amazing to hear several masjids in Georgia and Florida open their doors to evacuees too.
