Greetings fellow travelers! Welcome to the first transmission of this series, broadcast from the edge of the universe. A strange constellation of events has aligned. I have been granted the privilege of sharing all manner of things strange and terrible, beautiful and sweet, with the click of a few buttons on this most interesting start to another rotation around the sun.

The title for this blog came to me in a dream I had many years ago. It was a strange one, in which I was a girl who heard voices in her head. She was in fourth or fifth grade in the dream. Some trick of biology or metaphysics made this young girl (played by me but with darker hair) a conduit for these very heavy and disturbing thoughts, which turned out to be messages from the planet Pluto. The voice of Pluto was actually several voices, some of them alto, some bass, many personalities that catch and transmit all manner of ideas. Concepts of sex, death, and destruction were being filtered through this unlikely vessel, and she (we) began writing stories to let the pressure off. In the dream these stories were controversial. Her parents were called in for a teacher conference, because the content of the school journal was determined to be of an adult and disturbing nature.

The phrase Messages from Pluto stuck with me. To be honest, I had forgotten the whole episode, until recently. When I was asked to write for this site, the name came back to me. It became apparent that this is direction for the new project, but it is up to me to translate this into something coherent. Belatedly, I did some research on the planet Pluto, in effort to gain some insight on these symbols. This type of thing has happened to me several times over the years, some erratic detail from a dream becomes important or relevant to my waking life. So I have gathered some scientific and astrological information in order to translate this personal symbol to share with others. I am no expert in these matters, but am intrigued by what I have discovered so far.

Pluto the planet was only recently discovered in 1930, and was named by Venetia Burney, an eleven-year-old girl who had an interest in classical mythology. Pluto has always been a controversial object, and has been much debated through the last century. Is it a Planet? An Asteroid? Dead comet? Pluto’s discovery raises more astronomical questions than it answers. In 1992 it was determined that Pluto is the largest object in the Kuiper belt, which is a ring of asteroid-like objects that orbit the sun beyond Neptune, and has been reclassified as a dwarf planet since 2006. In 2015, New Horizons, the vessel launched ten years prior sent the first close-up pictures of this planet and surrounding celestial bodies. Pluto has five satellites, Charon, Nix, Hydra, Kerberos, and Styx. It is tidally locked with it’s largest moon Charon, as both present the same face to the other as they make their chaotic journey through orbit.

Astrologically, Pluto is one of the newest members of the solar system, and therefore the most mysterious. No colors, gemstones, or herbs are universally agreed upon, as Pluto seems to signify chemical process rather than materialized form. The keyword associated with Pluto is regeneration, which is symbolized by the glyph included with the banner for this blog. The semicircle of the soul is linked to the cross of matter, with the circle of the spirit hovers above. The idea is that the glyph represents spirit coming through the soul into physical manifestation of the body, but also the separation of spirit from matter at the time of death.

From what I have researched, some astrologers consider Pluto a higher vibration of Mars, as both are considered destructive forces. Mars works to break up material form, Pluto alters the atomic structure. Mars is commonly associated with the anger and force behind war, while Pluto is likened to an atom bomb and nuclear fission, which both destroys and creates. The passion for sex is Martian, but Pluto is the orgasm. Mars gives the individual the desire to be born, and Pluto provides the chemical process of conception.

Pluto is also called the Transformer as well as the Redeemer. This energy works as an eliminator and a force for renewal. The changes that occur under the influence of Pluto are the result of long processes, and the results are irrevocable. Pluto governs secrets, and reveals activities, neuroses, and ideas that have long remained hidden. It pulls these clandestine elements out into the light to be revealed, and the energetic release of these tensions is turbulent, and is associated with earthquakes and volcanoes. While its ultimate purpose is provident, Pluto’s methods are violent and subversive in order to uncover the secrets of the past and to clear ground for the future. The negative aspects of this power are cruelty, sadism, treachery, and criminal behavior. People that are experiencing a complete shift in life circumstances, such as bankruptcy, divorce, or those forced to leave everything behind to start over in another country or environment are said to be under the influence of Pluto.

Examining my dream through the filter of this new information presents some interesting conclusions. This energy resonates with me. My life and art are in the midst of a great transition. It makes sense that the voice of Pluto is manifold. As a member of the Kuiper belt, perhaps Pluto is a transmitter of all of those erratic thought forms orbiting outside of the established hierarchy of the solar system. The violent and aggressive nature of the messages the girl transcribed also seem to align with the ethos of this idea, which is the revelation of secrets, many of which are terrible yet need to be aired in order for positive change to occur. This reminds me of the concept of initiation, an idea that incorporates a loss of innocence, a necessary step toward evolution.

With all of this in mind, I dedicate this series to twin concepts of transformation and redemption. I have decided to describe some of the destructive forces unleashed in my own life, and how these events have shaped my own faith and personal practice. My hope is that by sharing these experiences, I will transmute this energy into strength. At best, readers may get something useful from this experiment. At least it will be entertaining for those with a wicked sense of humor and an appreciation for the absurd. My goal is to offer something authentic, to give fellow travelers the knowledge that even failure and pain can be reworked into something beautiful and new.  There is limitless space to be explored.

Welcome aboard.
