For the past four days, I have been blogging daily. I know that may not seem like much of an accomplishment, but if you’ll take a look at the dates of my other blog posts, you’ll notice that this is a new record for me. My previous record for most consecutive days in which I blogged is probably a whopping 1. But, a couple weeks ago, I finished reading Stephen King’s book, On Writing (which is a must-read for anyone... Read more

This weekend, I met one of my heroes, Jon Acuff, the best-selling author of Stuff Christians Like, Quitter, and Gazelles, Baby-steps, and 37 Other Things Dave Ramsey Taught Me About Debt.  It was an exciting and nerve wracking experience. Jon Acuff’s writing has impacted my life and my faith more than almost anyone else has. In fact, were it not for his writing, I would never have started this blog. What do you say to someone who’s impacted your life... Read more

I’ve written a guest post for Adam Ormond at Graphic Grace. It’s called, “Happiness Never Was a Requirement.” Feel free to check it out, and check out his awesome blog while you’re at it! http://adamormord.com/2011/06/07/guest-post-sarah-moon/ Read more

I look up to, and see myself in, many men in the Bible- Peter, and his impulsive, inconsistent, moments of spiritual passion; David, who processes his spiritual thoughts through his art; Thomas, who doesn’t believe everything he hears, even if it means he gets scolded for it. Unfortunately, due to the fact that most of the Bible took place in an antiquated, male dominated society, there are significantly less women for me to look up to. As a feminist, I... Read more

I’ve written multiple, brutally honest (and hopefully not too “emo” sounding posts) about my self-injurous tendencies. In fact, one of my biggest reasons for starting a blog in the first place was the hope that I might clear away some of the shadows of ignorance and taboo surrounding the issue of self-injury. Many people do it. Few people talk about it. I believe that this is a problem. I am an extremely private person and don’t always enjoy talking about... Read more

Ludwig van Beethoven wrote the 9th Symphony while he was completely deaf. Read that sentence again. No, I know you already knew that. I don’t care. Read it again. Let it sink in. Now, go ahead and listen to it. Especially pay attention to 2:50 and beyond, because that’s where God personally comes down from heaven and sings through the choir. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2lVQlBlDtU&feature=related Now, read that first sentence one last time. “Ludwig van Beethoven wrote the 9th Symphony while he was... Read more

Two weeks ago, I blew a fuse on my creative energy. A series of painful events produced entirely too much of an emotional charge for me to be able to channel all the feelings into enlightening works of art.  Bright ideas would flare up and then short-circuit (I really hope my electrical analogies make sense…or that no electricians read this. I have not bothered do to any research). In the midst of my emotional brown-out, I have been longing for time recharge... Read more

“You complete me.” “You’re my missing puzzle piece.” “I need you.” “I’m nothing without you” Are these really the kinds of phrases that should be associated with true love? When society puts so much emphasis on romantic relationships, it’s easy to build all of our confidence on these relationships. Then when they fall apart, we are left feeling empty, incomplete, broken. When we can’t find a romantic relationship, we feel that our lives are missing something. I think that the... Read more

I hesitate to write this post, since, with my previous posts about cutting, I am well on my way to becoming the stereotypical depressed blogger, and I prefer to refrain from things that are stereotypical. But, let’s be real here. It’s been a painful year. I’ve had to get up just to get kicked back down; I’ve had to turn around and face a past that’s been lurking behind me my entire life; I’ve had to pull more than a few knives out... Read more

Once upon a time, I didn’t go to Anderson University. My story begins in fall of 2009, in the little town of Winona Lake, Indiana, at a little school called Grace College. Grace College was a magical, sparkly, rainbow world of happy Christian goodness, where you walked onto campus and immediately felt like you were being hugged by Jesus. I might be exaggerating slightly, but I was happy there. It was my “comfort snuggie.” Grace College was also home of... Read more
