The Tennessee Kid Rides Again?

The Tennessee Kid Rides Again? February 3, 2023

Apparently Amazon has been doing the stand-up special thing for a while, and I’ve either not known about it or haven’t paid attention to it (though in my defense, there’s not a category for it on their Press site, and it shows up like one of their series when it’s streamed…). But they are and have just released a new special featuring Nate Bargatze (pronounced “Bar-gaht-zee”) called Hello World.

If you’ve not encountered Bargatze before, he’s a top-notch comedian who has done well with earlier work and maintains a folksy down-home humor (of the clean variety). His Netflix special Tennessee Kid was well-received, and I suspect this one will be too.

This special will appeal to Christians of a particular age, given that he spends a portion of his time reflecting on being raised by super-Christian parents in the late 80s and early 90s with their concern over the contents of The Simpsons and other now-quaint cultural priorities. He does this without being dismissive, disrespectful, or condescending–but also without endorsing their views.

Overall this is an excellent special and one that’s well worth an hour of your time.
