Each year in October, Scientologists from around the world travel to the United Kingdom to celebrate this anniversary and to attend a briefing by Mr. Miscavige on the Church’s progress toward accomplishing the Aims of Scientology:

“A civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war, where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights, and where Man is free to rise to greater heights.”—L. Ron Hubbard

This year, with the COVID-19 pandemic still upon us, no such gathering took place. So, before we bid farewell to October 2020, here is a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it is like when Mr. Miscavige arrives, and why the staff at Saint Hill look forward to his coming every year.

What it is like to work with Mr. David Miscavige

This is an excerpt from an interview with Elaine Mathieson, Director of Saint Hill Manor, which was L. Ron Hubbard’s home in the 1960s. It was here that Mr. Hubbard developed some of the most pivotal breakthroughs in his research into the mind and spirit.

If Elaine looks familiar, it may be that you remember her from watching Inside Saint Hill on the Scientology Network. And if not, here is a link where you can watch it on demand: https://www.scientology.tv/series/inside-scientology/saint-hill.html

“I’ve met Mr. Miscavige and known him since my early days when I was 18 years old,” she begins. “I love it when he comes to Saint Hill. It’s the best time of my life and I know for all the 400 staff that work here, it’s the best time of year when you hear that Mr. Miscavige is coming. Working with him is exhilarating.”

“I remember one time feeling not so good about something. I was worried about something, and I remember he came up and he said, ‘Hey, what’s wrong?’ And I told him what it was. He made me feel totally okay and just said, ‘Ah, don’t worry about that.’  And then later, you’re able to just make a joke and laugh about it, but it was totally handled. He had this way of making you feel totally at ease and good about yourself.”

There are dozens of videos of personal stories from people who know Mr. Miscavige on his website at https://www.davidmiscavige.org/videos.

Each one is different but there are common themes throughout. For example, Fu Mei Mathers was taken by knowing “he’s the leader of our group and he has so many people that are asking so many things of him and he took the time out to make sure that I was okay.”

Tony Twomey states, “He is what we call in Australia a dead-set regular guy. He’s got a sense of humor that is hilarious. He had me in stitches of laughter.”

And to Kelly Yaegermann, it was that he “thinks about other people. He makes you feel that you’re special.… And to me, that’s really the sign of greatness.”
