It’s Friday! This week I’ve made a concentrated effort to blog on M/W/F and today I’m celebrating my success by joining my favorite online community, the Five Minute Friday bloggers.  Every Friday this group of brave writers, sit down and write for five minutes on one word prompt.  These posts free-write which means for one day a week we write just for the love of the written word– no over-thinking or worrying about grammar or punctuation.  There are no rules,... Read more

On Sunday, I used an Audible credit to download, Rob Bell’s new book on marriage written and narrated with his wife,  called, “The Zimzum of Love: A New Way Of Understanding Marriage”.  Since Sunday morning I’ve listened to the book three times. It’s just that good.  It’s short ( a little over two and had hours long), the theological language is accessible, the approach to faith is inclusive, and the production of the audiobook is flawless. Rob and Kristen read... Read more

Every since I was a little girl, all I wanted was to go to school, study writing, marry a charismatic minister and have lots and lots of babies.  As antiquated as this sounds, I wanted to devote my life to faith and family.  From 16-18 “train up my children in the way they should go” was my life verse. During these years,  I dreamed of mornings with my children that began with “Rise and Shine and give God the glory,... Read more

The concept of “self-care” always seemed over my head and too lofty of a goal to attain, so or the first four years of motherhood I was a raging hot mess. What kept my schedule overwhelmed and soul under-nourished was my ridiculous need to “sabbath well”. As a (recovering) perfectionist, I struggle so much that when I was first introduced to the idea of carving out time to “take care of myself” I thought, ‘there’s no way on God’s green... Read more

Today, the inevitable happened.  My mixed child revealed his insecurity about his racial identity.  I knew this would happen. I really did, but it still hurt.  More than hurt, I was frustrated because I did everything right with this kid.  We talk openly about race in our home. We stress the imago dei in every single person. We point to Creator God who made all of us beautiful whole expressions of his divine love–not in spite of our skin color–but... Read more

I’ve sat here for an hours reading old journals, emails, and watching Youtube to find exactly what I want to encourage you with today and I’ve got….nothing. No major piece of wisdom. No pretty turn of a phrase. No words from the Lord. Not even a good video to show. Nothing. And I could feel like  failure because I’m a writer with no words.  But I decided that even though I don’t have words, I’m going to show up, write... Read more

Hey Lovlies, Sorry for going MIA there for the past four days.  On Thursday, I was in what seemed like simple fender bender, a driver distracted by his phone rear-ended me and my kids. The next day I was sore all over, dizzy, and nauseous.  I was so sure I had a concussion, but thankfully, my doctor ruled it out, she did tell me to REST, apply heat, take my meds (I really, really hate taking medicine), and REST (she... Read more
