Hey friends, I’d like to introduce a new weekly series on the blog called, “Hump Day Happiness” inspired by my family’s meal planning schedule.  On Wednesdays the day of the week we’re most worn down and tired, I decided to infuse the week with happiness and excitement by planning the dinner around a family’s member’s favorite dish just to make them smile.  On some Wednesdays we celebrate good news.   For instance, last week we celebrated the return of our... Read more

My husband and I celebrated our ten year anniversary this past February! Naturally, I’ve been reflecting on our relationship and the lessons we’ve learned.  The greatest hurdle we’ve had wasn’t evacuating from New Orleans, but learning how to navigate life as an interracial couple.  So when Sarah Bessey, the author of  “Jesus Feminist:An Invitation for Revisit the Bibles View of Women”—one of my favorite book in 2013— invited me to reflect on a discussion question for her week-long book club,... Read more

When I was younger, my daddy and I would play chess and plan my future:   Daddy moves his white pawn to E4, “So, when you get to high school you’re going to need to hit the extra-curricular hard; debate team and foreign language club.” I move my black pawn to E5, “which foreign language?” Dad’s bishop to D6, “Any will do, preferably Spanish since we’re in Texas.” “I wanna learn French”, I say as I move my pawn to... Read more

Last Good Friday I walked into the Boston Tattoo Company pulled my sleeve up, and let Dia mark my right wrist with her beautiful interpretation of a peace dove. It’s been a little over year of embodying peace in the form of an elegant dove tattoo on my wrist. It’s been a year and this dove is my favorite sacrament of faith for it prompts me to stop and filter my choices through the sieve of Shalom. It’s been a... Read more

I’m over at A Deeper Story today reflecting on Jesus asleep during the storm and my favorite quote from Louisa May Alcott   I knew we were due for a storm. New Orleans is notoriously known as the city in a fishbowl. I did not, however, expect the storm to come just months after we moved into the neighborhood, newly married, with a toddler, and a baby on the way. I had hoped maybe we’d have at least a few... Read more

Today I’m excited to join my new friend, Heather Caliri the woman behind, “A Little Yes”, on a blog tour to share our writing process. I know you’re probably think, ‘Wait, Osheta you’re actually writing?’ Yes, yes, I know…it’s been quiet around here. So much life is happening and I’m keeping my words close to my heart right now. But, I think that season’s coming to a close or maybe the words are tired of bouncing around brain, either way,... Read more

The above line is from Pharrell William’s song, “Brand New” featuring Justin Timberlake.  Yeah, you read that right!  What’s NOT to love about JT and Pharrell teaming up?  And like I suspected, when my friend and story sister, A’Driane Nieves  shared the song, I fell in love with it—immediately.  So it’s the inspiration for today’s addition to “The Sunday Community” . It’s  a PERFECT jam for our family’s upcoming season of transitions.  We’re at a precipice of so many crazy... Read more

On Thursday, I purchased “Art of Celebration” by Rend Collective Experiment.  It’s a wonderful soundtrack of joy.  Seriously, every song has me dancing around or throwing my arms up to worship. The first song, “Joy” has this powerful declaration, “We’re choosing celebration” and right now while we’re processing from disappointments ,I need the hope-filled defiance of that phrase.  I need to know we can choose celebration. I need to rebel against pain let joy reignite me! I’m reminded of the... Read more
