A couple of years ago, I read, “A Year of Biblical Womanhood: How a Liberated Woman Found Herself Sitting on Her Roof, Covering Her Head, and Calling Her Husband “Master” by Rachel Held Evans. I was at a place where I was tired of back-biting and position defending in the church.  I wanted her to rise up beautiful and unified with the words of peace on her lips.  I was so over the underlying expectation that every woman is a... Read more

Hi Friends, Last week, my husband was in Chicago at Mid-winter, a conference by our denomination.  When he’s away I try to get every single home project on my to-do list completed, one year I reorganized our linen closet, another I turned our bedroom in a romantic love nest complete with twinkle lights and new lamps, this year I wanted to cover our dining room chairs, but when I asked my husband where his staple gun was, he was like,... Read more

Today I’m linking up with Lisa-Jo Baker’s FMF (Five Minute Friday)  Our prompt for the day is: Write. GO: On Monday I wrote this Facebook status:  Today’s been tough. It feels dark and cold. I’m sad about the car and I’m lonely without my hubs. I miss him. I do. He’s my other half, my sounding board, my warm embrace when life is bitterly cold. I also miss writing true words. Since the car drama started, I’ve written angry words,... Read more

“I’ll make love to you, like you want me to and I’ll hold you tight, baby all though the night!”  With gusto and passion, I sang along with Boyz II Men.  Twirling around my bedroom and clutching my favorite party dress to my chest, I used  it to mime the “throw your clothes on the floor’ lyric.  My room filled with the harmony of these love-makers crooning to their beloved and I was lost in the beauty of that sexy... Read more

Tonight I went to a card-making class in Porter Square.  Since our minivan is at the dealership for repairs, I’ve been taking the “T”, Boston’s public transit—which I love.   To get to Porter from my house, I have to take the 73 bus to Harvard Station then transfer onto the outbound red line train. Usually, I get on the bus, turn on an audio book and ignore the other passengers until I get to Harvard, but tonight,  I noticed... Read more

Yesterday in church we had a guest speaker, Efrain Alicea, “Brother E”,  pastor of Elements Church in the Bronx.  His church uses hip hop to reach the 18-25 demographic and he shared a powerful story of how he found his voice and calling in hip hop while on a date with a girl. Right before he went in to “make his move”  he heard these words by Wonder Mike in “Rappers Delight” playing from the street: I am Wonder Mike,... Read more

Whew, it’s been an amazing week!  On Monday, my contribution to a roundtable on Rachel Held Evans‘ blog went live, then my post, “Oh Honey, Come Here, I Think Your Privilege Is Showing”, was linked up as the “must -read” on Sarah Bessey’s and today that same post made RHE’s Sunday superlatives.  With all that interwebs love,  there are a lot of new subscribers to the blog. To my faithful subscribes, thank you for your support and sharing my words... Read more
