I saw this commercial and thought of my OneWord365, “Taste”.  I love it so much.  It’s funny, true, and there’s a talking almond…who wouldn’t love a talking almond? There’s a blog post somewhere in there…stay tuned :). Intrigued to try Almond Now, Read more

So, I’m pulling the plug on posting my breakfast everyday.  No, I’m not giving up on the breaking of morning bread or spending time with Jesus, never that, but y’all…let me get really real for a moment…I’m not that girl. I’m not the wake up singing “blessed be your name” kind of girl. I’m not even the wake up and want to smile at the first kiddo that waddles into the kitchen for their hard-boiled egg, kind of girl.  Confession—... Read more

Today, I had the honor of sharing my perspective on the “Duck Dynasty Drama” in a roundtable discussion on Rachel Held Evans blog. I’m truly humbled to share space with voices like, Britteny Cooper, Benjamin Moberg, and  Tamára Lunardo.     Their words have made me a wiser and more compassionate Shalom Sistah. Read more here on Rachel’s blog. For more thoughts on racial reconciliation and peacemaking here are my favorite posts here on “Shalom in the City”: For the days... Read more

I woke up sad today.  Sad and angry and disappointed and confused to be exact.  I wish I could pinpoint one source for ALL THE EMOTIONS, but I can’t.  There are several external stressors and it would be so easy to say, “oh, it’s this person” or “that circumstance” or “those people”, so I won’t do it.  I won’t because I’m conditioned to take in pain, place blame, then recycle pain in angry words or bitter thoughts.  Jesus didn’t recycle... Read more

Today, I jumped out of bed at 7:14.  The kids needed to leave the house for 7:45.  How was I going to make breakfast cookies in less than twenty minutes? I wasn’t.  It was impossible.  So the kids and I rallied—they found clean socks, I rushed the recycling to the curb in my wrinkly pjs.  The brushed their teeth, I made coffee.  They made lunches and I made my new standby, scrambled eggs. Part of me felt the cold shame... Read more

Today’s I tried out a recipe from Shauna Niequist’s book, “Bread and Wine” a staple here on the blog this year as I’m using the word, “taste” as my compass this year. Shauna’s words are like nourishment to my soul, just when wanted to lean in to my antisocial tendencies, her words beckoned me to the table of Jesus, where I found a renewed sense of worth and identity.  Her book reminded me of the power of Christian community and... Read more

Today’s 31 Breakfast with Jesus is simply a picture, a scripture, and a thought as I’m joining up with Jumping Tandem’s Sunday Community So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven,[ Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not... Read more
