I’ve just finished listening to “Pastrix” by Nadia Bolz-Weber for the second time today.  Just days before her beautiful, cranky theological memoir released, my husband and I watched her interview at Wild Goose. This woman pastor covered in tattoos intrigued me.  I appreciated her honesty and humor and I LOVED that she wasn’t afraid to accurately describe the jolting revelation from the Holy Spirit when we’ve been sorely wrong as a bitch slap!  I knew I would love her book.  ... Read more

Happy Friday Wonderful Friends, I’m a little under the weather today, but I was able to eek this out in five minutes for my favorite community over at Lisa-Jo Baker FMF. Today’s prompt was “she”. We write for five minutes on Friday without over thinking, over-editing, overwhelming ourselves with negative self-talk.  We write because words breath life into our souls when we let them pour out authentically from our hearts.  It’s easy to join us: 1. Write for 5 minutes... Read more

TRIGGER WARNING: Bullying and language “Oh my gosh, Osheta!  I’m so glad I ran in to you.  This is so God!” exclaimed my friend.  With an infectious passion for the oppressed that I’ve grown to love,  she told me about a seven-year-old black girl in Tulsa who was expelled from school for having dreadlocks.  “That’s…horrible!  Don’t you think?” she asked. I nodded not quite sure why it’s ‘SO GOD’ she ran into me and how I, a black woman who... Read more

When I read the prompt for today’s Five Minute Friday was “red”, I immediately thought of this perfume.  It’s currently in my nightstand and it’s one of the only scents I wear. With it’s luxurious mixture of pomegranate, red osmanthius, rum, and (Ohmyword) marshmallow— it’s perfect for me.  I wear it all the time.  To church.  On dates.  Out with friends.  It’s my scent.   And I wanted to write about it. “Love-letter to Forever Red” was what I initially thought. ... Read more

So, last night, I posted to Facebook that the kids were in bed by 8.  Yeah, that lasted for oh um….ten minutes until someone’s finger hurt, someone really, really, really, wanted to wear their school clothes to bed, “Just so I’m ready, Mom!…oh c’mon, mom, please….please…please… I’m trying to be responsible!”, and yet another complained she was waiting up “all this time!” for me to “properly tuck us in”! Good grief! Then I had the great idea to put up... Read more

“My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight.. But my Kingdom is not of this world.” Jesus, John 18:36 Today, I finally sat down, turned on CNN, and let the crisis in Syria into my heart. I’m soul sick and weary at the violence in our world. I want justice.  I want the lives of innocent Syrians to be vindicated.  But, I’m don’t believe in “retributive justice”, so the plans to attack Syria in... Read more

I’m linking up with Leigh Kramer’s “What I’m Into” today. One thing you should know about me is I’m very into my Facebook app.  I use it every day, sometimes twice a day, and I record everything I love on my wall.  From my kiddos craziest antics to my amazing online deals, if I love it—it’s going on my wall.  So for my “What I’m into” I’m going to show a snapshot of my favorite FB statuses and share the... Read more
