I’m linking up with Leigh Kramer’s “What I’m Into” today. One thing you should know about me is I’m very into my Facebook app.  I use it every day, sometimes twice a day, and I record everything I love on my wall.  From my kiddos craziest antics to my amazing online deals, if I love it—it’s going on my wall.  So for my “What I’m into” I’m going to show a snapshot of my favorite FB statuses and share the... Read more

It’s FMF time again. My first in a while.  I’m so glad I stayed up, because with this week’s word, “Worship”,  I got to remember one of my favorite moments worshiping under the spectacular sound of Christy Nockels voice at a women’s conference.  I love this community who spends five minutes writing once a week. We don’t spend too much time editing, second-guessing, or negative self-talking.  We just write from our hearts for five minutes.  We write because God has... Read more

Dear Very Near Future Osheta, A week from today, you’ll be dropping your babies off at school.  Yes!  Hallelujer!  Thank ya, Jesus! Like every other first day of school, you’ll greet the kids in the morning, freshly showered, coffee-ed up, singing “Rise and shine and give God the glory, glory!” and inside you’ll do a happy, happy Jesus dance because in T-minus sixty minutes the house will be quiet.  Beautifully quiet. Stunningly quiet.  Quiet and still and the day will... Read more

A couple of years ago I wrote a book called, “Carried Away: Post Katrina Confessions of a Foolish Builder”.  A mini-memoir of our evacuation from New Orleans and first year in Boston based on the parable of the foolish builder— a teaching of Jesus that was pivotal during that turbulent season.  When I had a hard time getting an agent, someone told me to start a blog. “Yeah right!” I said, “blogs are for Mdivs and modge podge mavens”.  Then... Read more

Tonight’s final addition to Summer Rewind was actually my first official WordPress post, but it’s still one of my favorites.  Plus, I’ve been writing a post called, “The Warrior and the Bear” on body image issues and a salty cuss word flowed out of me as I thought about the shame I felt of not being the perfect size.  I almost deleted it, but then remembered this post and how Jesus desires us to come authentically, even and maybe especially... Read more

For the next few days, I’ll be re-posting some of my favorite posts from my old site.  Today’s post, “Shalom Seeking” was a part of my kids and social justice series last fall. Just re-reading it has made me thankful for the CCDA for dispelling the mystery around social justice.  It’s as simple as brokenness made whole.  Today we’ll re-visit how I talk to my children abut social justice using the language of “shalom” and Micah 6:8. Shalom-Seeking Two weeks... Read more

I’m not a big fan of pre-written devotionals, I find I’d rather take in the bible verse or idea myself, finagle in my head and then begin a series of conversations to bring home my point.  So these devotionals should probably be called, “con-votionals” because they are more guided conversations that traditional devotiona The format will be: Movie Info Movie Summary Con-votionals questions Scripture Application Prayer When teaching my kids about the Bible, the most important thing for me is... Read more

I literally have only ten minutes to write while my min mac and cheese bites bake.  I’m trying out a new recipe from Shauna Niequist’s book “Bread and Wine:Love Letter To Life Around the Table” for dinner and a welcome home/enjoy one more day basking in your honeymoon afterglow dinner for a newly wed couple on our launch team.  So, today’s FMF “beautiful” will be on fumbling my way through the recipe and even though I was completely overwhelmed attempting... Read more
