This thought has been on my mind as I’ve been prepping for Part Two of “Do You, Mama!  Do you.” Which I had planned on writing today, but, rain threatened all day long and when my husband took the car for an errand over forty-five minutes away that was a complete bust, he left me alone with the kids. All. Day. Long. And everytime I tried to write, a child wanted my attention.  Which for an awesome pirate themed summer... Read more

The concept of this letter has been on my mind since I took my seven year old and  middle child, T.J. to sleep away camp on Wednesday and left him a card to open on his second day at camp.   It fits so well with this week’s FMF (Five Minute Friday) phrase, “in between”, that I’m going to try to write everything I’ve been thinking about him, his special role as my middle child, and this “in between” phase of... Read more

To all my FMF visitors,  Confession:  I’ve been working on this first post in a series on finding your rhythm and passions as mom all week, but it so lined up with today’s word, “rhythm” I wanted to share it with y’all.  I’m sorry for being a rule breaker :), but I hope you’ll be encouraged by this post on being true to ourselves as moms.   “This above all: to thine own self be true”  William Shakespere “Always be... Read more

This Sunday, my husband preached at Sanctuary Church in Providence, RI.  We were both thrilled and a little humbled to be their guests while our friends and their pastors Corrie and Andrew were on vacation. Corrie is all life, love, and effervescence.  Andrew is warmth, thoughtfulness, and passion. They’ve played red light, green light with my high-energy kiddos.  Andrew drove me to the airport at 4am.   Their heart and vision for Providence is so much like ours for Boston... Read more

Yesterday, I pulled on my favorite gray sweatshirt.  The one with the slightly frayed hood.  The one that falls just right below my bum hiding the junk in my trunk oh so cleverly.  The one with the kangaroo pouch that camouflages my “mama pooch” and holds everything from my iPhone to the Beyblade pieces I find while cleaning house. I pulled my hair into a high ponytail, threw on some simple silver earrings, and my comfy house-booties. I was Housekeeping... Read more

The last things I say to my children before they head out for school are always the most important pieces of information they need. “Don’t forget your folder!”   “Here’s your lunch box!  Eat the carrots first!”  “I love you!” My last ditch effort to give them everything they need to be their best selves when they’re not with me happens before they step off the security of my porch and into the vulnerability of a new day. This is probably... Read more

“If you feel your value lies in being merely decorative, I fear that someday you might find yourself believing that’s all that you really are. Time erodes all such beauty, but what it cannot diminish is the wonderful workings of your mind: Your humor, your kindness, and your moral courage. These are the things I cherish so in you. I so wish I could give my girls a more just world. But I know you’ll make it a better place.”... Read more

My mom posted this quote to my Facebook timeline this week right after the Marathon bombings.  She knew I was shaken up and scared.  You see, Boston is a mere 3 miles away from my house in Cambridge and our hearts are set on planting a church in that great “state of grace”, so my mom posted a quote from one of my favorite writers. Hoping I’m sure that encouraging me to trust God with both this tragedy and our... Read more

Source Lately, I’ve been cussing in my prayer times. At first, I was so shocked when a slightly blue, salty word slipped from my lips.  How doth I utter such expletive in the presence of the Most High.  I shall pay the iron price for my insolence!  And like a good girl I apologized, felt horrible for letting an unclean word pollute the air of my prayer closet, and promised to process my anguish a little nicer, a little cleaner,... Read more
