Yesterday, I wrote for the SheLoves Red Couch a discussion post on “Too Heavy A Yoke” by Chanequa Walker-Barnes.  I wrote about how I never saw my mama cry and the first time I did, it shocked me.  She was too strong and capable for that.  Today’s post is a follow-up. I never let myself cry and feel my weakness, and it nearly cost me my life.   Within the first few pages of reading, “Too Heavy A Yoke” by... Read more

“In the darkness something was happening at last. A voice had begun to sing. It was very far away and Digory found it hard to decide from what direction it was coming. Sometimes it seemed to come from all directions at once. Sometimes he almost thought it was coming out of the earth beneath them. Its lower notes were deep enough to be the voice of the earth herself. There were no words. There was hardly even a tune.... Read more

Today’s guest is one of my favorite women, Victoria Tiedemann. She and I only know each other from online— we’re both Anabaptist women bloggers who love fashion and justice…were were bound to meet and become friends. Victoria is passionate about ending modern day slavery, she’s what some call an abolitionist. She tells us about the Justice Network and how she started working with them to educate others about human trafficking and she gives us some VERY SPECIFIC ways we can... Read more

****Hey Sistas, One thing I want to start doing here on the blog is to write quick reflections when I see Shalom in “the wild” that reflects one of our manifesto points— podcasts, books, movies, music…whatever.  I hope you like these quick posts and if you see Shalom in the Wild…Let me know. Yesterday, I listened to three women talk about race. One black. One white with black sons. One white and eager to understand. As they talked about the... Read more

On the show today I talk to one of my favorite women, Melanie Dale.   Melanie runs the website Unexpected where she writes about motherhood, friendships, infertility, adoption, orphan care, and so much more.  What I love about her site is it feels like one big hug and then a completely satisfying belly laugh. Melanie is also the author of two books: Women Are Scary: The Totally Awkward Adventure of Finding Mom Friends and It’s Not Fair: Learning to Love... Read more
