Trump 2.0: When God Loves You Enough to Break You

Fox News recently declared that divine intervention helped Donald Trump claw his way back into the White House. In a poll, a full third of Americans — and a fat majority of White evangelicals — seem convinced that God Himself shoved Trump across the finish line, shielding him from not one but two assassination attempts.

Sure.
Let’s go with that.
Let’s assume, for argument’s sake, that God intervened…

But before we roll out the heavenly red carpet, let’s remember:
God’s interventions aren’t always blessings.

Many times, they’re punishments.

Woe to the people who pray for a king and get exactly what they deserve.

The Old Testament Playbook of How God “Blesses” the Stubborn

Throughout Scripture, when God’s people demanded power, control, or comfort over character — sound familiar? — He didn’t reward them.
He handed them consequences with a gift receipt they refused to read.

Israel begged for a king to be like the other nations.
God shrugged, said “fine,” and handed them Saul: a king so unstable he made Macbeth look like a yoga instructor.

Israel worshiped idols and chased nationalism.
God gave them exile, captivity, famine, and the tender mercies of Babylon.

They cried out for strength and security — and were promptly steamrolled by stronger, more secure enemies.

Biblical Pattern, in brief:
You pray for dominance?
God hands you a mirror.
You pray for a savior?
God hands you a consequence.

Thus says the Lord: “You desired a king after your own image; behold, you have fashioned one from gold, bronzer, and grievance.”

The American Red-Hatted Golden Calf

White American Christianity didn’t storm the gates of heaven pleading for humility, mercy, or love of neighbor.

They demanded a champion who would protect their privilege, smite their enemies, and leave their gun collections untouched.

And what did God allegedly give them?
A bronzed aspiring dictator in a suit.
A living monument to idolatry, cruelty, and ego.

Woe to you, O land, whose king wears a hat that speaks louder than his soul.

God didn’t send Trump because we were faithful.

He sent Trump because we were faithless — because too many traded the Sermon on the Mount for a mouthful of slogans.

He wasn’t a blessing.

He was a litmus test — a living measure of how easily the faithful could be led astray.

And now, as the floodwaters rise (hello, climate change; goodbye, FEMA), the self-righteous are learning the hard way that drowning feels a lot different when you prayed for the storm.

If you say God sent Trump, great — then that makes you Israel, and this is your judgment. Unfortunately, we’re all living with the consequences.

Prophets didn’t show up with comfort. They came bearing consequences. Warnings. Woes. If this is God’s doing, it’s not a celebration — it’s a siren.

Signs and Wonders (a.k.a. Modern Plagues)

In the old days, when a nation needed correcting, God rolled out the classics: blood rivers, locusts, frogs, boils.

Today? He’s updated His toolkit for the digital age.

Modern Plagues of Judgment:

  • Inflation swelling like a festering wound, as tariffs kneecap the economy with the subtlety of a sledgehammer.
  • Politicians turning a blind eye as Trump seizes power, too busy cashing donor checks to notice their own constituents picking through the smoldering ruins.
  • Oligarchs gorging themselves on chaos, growing richer by the day as markets crash and the 99% barter dignity for scraps.
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion sacrificed on the altar of white victimhood, as if justice were an optional luxury.
  • Churches hollowing out while megachurch pastors audition for reality TV, trading shepherding for showmanship.
  • Free speech rebranded as ‘treason,’ unless it comes pre-approved by the ministry of manufactured persecution.
  • The Department of Education under siege, dismantled by people who can spell ‘freedom’ with a Gadsden flag but can’t spell ‘education’ without help.

Thus says the Lord: “You demanded victory without virtue; behold, I have given you reality TV without the off switch.”

The Mercy Hidden in the Madness

If God truly lifted His hand to put Trump back on the throne, it wasn’t an applause line.

It was a warning flare.

Biblical punishment always had a purpose:
Not to annihilate, but to humble. Not to destroy, but to wake up the dead-hearted and self-deluded.

In every exile, every defeat, every fall from greatness, the call was the same:

“Return to Me. Forsake your idols. Do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly — not stumble arrogantly in a spray-tanned daze.”

Woe to the nation that mistakes its reflection for its redeemer.

The real tragedy isn’t that Trump is back.

The real tragedy is that so many still think this is a triumph instead of a rescue mission in reverse.

Closing Benediction

So congratulations, America.
God heard your prayers.
He handed you your king.
And now He’s pulling up a chair to see if you choke on the feast you demanded.

Because sometimes divine love looks like breaking your teeth on the idols you worship. Sometimes the only way home is through the wilderness you built yourself.

Repent, ye MAGA, for the kingdom of God looks nothing like the kingdom of grift and grievance you’ve mistaken for glory.

Thus says the Lord: “When you are ready to trade your red hats for sackcloth, I’ll be waiting.”
