How To Trust God When We Can’t See Him In Physical Form

Would you trust someone that you’d never seen in person before? Most of us wouldn’t, which begs the question, how can we trust God when we can’t see Him in physical form? When it comes to trusting in God, it requires faith. It requires us to believe with all our hearts and all of our souls.

It takes a lot of patience to learn this. To keep it in perspective, we have to realize that it’s not happening “to you,” but rather, it’s happening “for you through Him.” God is no stranger to us when we seek Him and get to know Him.

He directs us to be strong and courageous and reminds us that He will be with us everywhere we go. The path to Him may not be easy, it may be fraught with all sorts of pot holes and pitfalls, but, if we remain faithful, He will guide us every step of the way.

Proverbs 3: 5 tells us that if we “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Of course, this is easier said than done.

Let’s look at some ways to learn to trust Him more and lean into Him with our faith.

Faith

Faith is trusting in something or someone, even when you don’t have any tangible evidence that it truly exists. Having faith in God is having faith that He exists and imparts His goodness upon us, even though we cannot see, touch, or sometimes hear Him.

In Hebrews 11: 1 “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Personal Experience

From personal experience, I can tell you that the voice of God is soft-spoken and gentle. He will never force you to do anything you don’t want. He will guide you every step of the way when you trust in Him and His existence. While we may not have met God in the physical sense, there are many accounts of people reporting meeting Him through feelings of peace, guidance, and inspiration.

Such personal encounters, despite some of them being subjective, can be very powerful stories and sources of faith and trust. Moses had a personal encounter with God in the Bible when he received the Ten Commandments.

Testimony of Others

Hearing others share their stories of personal experiences and encounters with God can greatly solidify our trust in God. If you’ve never read a story about someone having a near-death experience, I challenge you to read one or two of those experiences. It’s amazing what the power of one of these stories can have.

Nature and Creation

Look around you. What do you see? Do you see majestic mountains? Wildflowers? Birds and other animals? Take a few moments to enjoy the beauty of the world around you. Many find evidence of God’s existence and presence in the beauty that surrounds them. If you’re in a more urban setting, look beyond the concrete and busyness to see the wonders of creation.

It’s amazing how a simple walk in nature can inspire awe and calm a restless spirit. Focus on mindfulness, take a walk in nature, and breathe in some of His goodness. Some call this forest bathing, while others call it a walk in the woods or a hike. Regardless of what it’s called, it’s a great way to return to nature and fill your soul with His goodness.

Philosophical Reasoning

Some philosophical arguments, such as the cosmological or the teleological arguments, attempt to logically reason towards the existence of a higher being or deity. They often overcomplicate their existence. Don’t fall prey to overcomplicating things.

Remember that it’s easy to get caught up in more philosophical arguments however, those are cleverly designed to take our attention elsewhere.

Prayer and Meditation

Engaging in practices like prayer, meditation, or contemplation can deepen one’s connection to the divine and foster a sense of trust in God’s presence and guidance. Spending time in His word and journaling thoughts and feelings is a great way to meditate and spend time in

Ultimately, we should trust God and allow Him to influence our decisions. We can feel His presence by combining our upbringing, personal experience, and spiritual practices. One of the best examples of His presence is found in Lauren Daigle’s song Trust In You is full of imagery that pains the idyllic picture of what it’s like to walk in faith and trust in God when we can’t see Him.
