I am not in a position to be able to purchase the latest new thing every year, and even if I was, I am not the sort of person who would do that.  I value my devices, and I want them to last and function well for as long as possible.  This sigil for electronic devices was created to help bolster those efforts.

May this electronic device,
so long as it is treasured,
be blessed with a resistance to physical damage and failures,
even when dropped, bumped, or smashed,
find a strong connection,
be responsive and speedy,
be unhindered by glitches and errors,
and be protected from viruses
and unauthorized intrusion.
So Mote It Be.

The Sigil for Electronic Devices

Ward against viruses and intrusions

Ward the device against any unwanted viruses, spyware, malware, hacking, and other unauthorized access or use.  This will be most effective in concert with real-world precautions.  Be sure to keep up-to-date antivirus protection active on your device, and follow all reasonable security measures.  Also, no amount of sigil magic is going to protect your device if you deliberately download and allow an app that contains malicious code.

Loving relationship

As an animist, I believe in reciprocal relationships with the things I value and use regularly.  Electronic devices in particular tend to be responsive to attitudes, and can work smoothly if they like someone, or be cantankerous and as frustrating as possible if they do not like someone.  This aspect encourages robust caring on the part of the owner, and good will on the part of the electronic device.  If you are not animistic, this aspect can be viewed as a measure of how much you treasure your device and want it to function like new.

Ward against glitches

This provides protection from odd behavior, glitches, and inconsistencies.

Resistant to physical errors and failures

This aspect provides protection from physical problems and failures due to age and use, to help provide longevity and smooth functionality for the device.

Strong connection

When a connection is available, may it be as strong, steady, and speedy as possible.

Responsive and speedy

This aspect encourages the device to be responsive and speedy, even as it ages.

Resistant to damage

This aspect provides protection from oopsies like dropping, smacking, or bumping the device, or even deliberate efforts at destruction.  This aspect will function best in concert with real-world protection like phone/tablet cases, screen protectors, etc., as the protective measures can take the damage instead of the device itself.  Also, cases provide an excellent location to draw the sigil.

I attempted to draw the sigil directly onto the back of my phone, but the surface is designed to be resistant to marking.  Permanent markers and paint pens both pooled on the surface, so that did not work at all.  The sigil you see above is drawn on the inside of the cheap clear case using a paint pen.  If your case is opaque, the sigil will be hidden from view when applied in this way.  Since the sigil is symmetrical, you do not have to worry about the design being flipped if the case is clear.  Putting it on the inside will protect it from being scratched or rubbed off.

How to Use the Sigil

You can use this sigil for electronic devices in any way that is in line with its intent and makes sense for your practice.  Some ideas are to:

* draw it on your device, or the inside of its case
* inscribe it on a candle, which you burn while focusing on the device to be protected
* print it or draw it on a piece of paper and place it on your altar or somewhere you see regularly
* put a copy in your wallet, in your computer bag, or in close proximity to your device
* use it as the wallpaper, login background, or screen saver on your phone, tablet, or computer
* use it as a focus for meditation
* and so on

Your rendering of the sigil does not need to be perfect.  Intent is what matters, so do not worry if you cannot draw it “perfectly”.  As long as all the elements are there, you are good.

Like any sigil, it will be most effective when it is used in conjunction with real-world actions.  Be sure to do what you can physically to help your device stay in the best possible shape.  The sigil alone is not going to fix everything, but it can give a powerful boost to the actions you take, and hopefully help your device work well for longer.

This sigil was created especially with phones, tablets, laptops, and other portable electronics in mind, but it may be applied to any electronic devices, including, but not limited to, gaming consoles, televisions, smart home devices, remotes, and even vehicles that have electronic parts (most vehicles built in the 90’s, and all vehicles built in the 2000’s).

If you would like to use the graphics I have created as wallpaper or login background for your device, you can download higher resolution versions of those on my personal website.

Sharing

If you share this sigil for electronic devices, be sure to link back to this blog post so others who see it can find out exactly what it is charged to do.  Sigils are most effective when the user knows exactly what they were created to do, and that is also the only way they can be certain this sigil is right for them and their situation.

I use the method described in the excellent book Sigil Witchery, by Laura Tempest Zakroff.  You do not need to consider yourself an artist to make your own sigils.
