Faith. I am a lay Catholic woman faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, and I believe in and practice all of the teachings of the Catholic Church. That is the viewpoint from which all of my posts, and all of my guest posts, will be written. Questions about and respectful disagreement with the teachings of the Church are fine; however, I will not tolerate insults, libel, falsehoods, proselytizing, and other generally rude behavior. If I’m feeling generous, I’ll give several warnings first. I do not owe anyone a platform and will ban commenters at my discretion. Comments will be removed at my discretion.

Discussion and Debate: There are no off-topic subjects – yet. I’m okay with friendly, if intense, debate and discussion. But I have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to name-calling, insults (whether direct or implied) and malicious snarkiness. I can be snarky with the best of them, but not when it’s at the expense of someone else. Also, please try to refrain from gossip and general uncharitableness. Venting is fine – we all need a safe place to do that sometimes – but sometimes vent threads can turn into a dogpile of uncharitable words towards the people discussed. Remember that there’s an actual human being with feelings behind every keyboard, and we’re all trying to get each other to heaven.

A good rule of thumb is in paragraph 2477 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

“To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor’s thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way:

‘Every good Christian ought to be more ready to give a favorable interpretation to another’s statement than to condemn it. But if he cannot do so, let him ask how the other understands it. And if the latter understands it badly, let the former correct him with love. If that does not suffice, let the Christian try all suitable ways to bring the other to a correct interpretation so that he may be saved.’ (St. Ignatius of Loyola)”

Be Nice. Treat someone as you would if they were having coffee in your living room, and you’ll be just fine.
