Bret Thoman, OFS has been a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order (Third Order of St. Francis) since 2006. He lives in Loreto, Italy with his wife and three children.
He has a master’s degree in Italian from Middlebury College, a BA from the University of Georgia, and a certificate in Franciscan Studies.
Bret has written and published six books and translated numerous books from Italian to English. While working as an interpreter for CNN, he translated the papal conclave and announced the election of Pope Francis live.
His main activity is organizing pilgrimages for St. Francis Pilgrimages, the company he founded in 2004.
Bret is an FAA-licensed pilot and flew professionally for six years logging over 3,500 hours of flight time.
Bret spends his free time reading, watching films, hiking, learning to sail, and changing diapers.
