Gyulchekhra Bobokulova, 38, above, the nanny accused of beheading a four-year-old girl in Moscow on Monday, told reporters that that Allah had ordered her to commit the crime.
According to this report, a court decided that the divorced mother of three from the Muslim-majority ex-Soviet state of Uzbekistan, should to be detained for two months while the investigation continued into the killing.
The court heard that she presented:
An exceptional risk to public safety.
On Monday police wrestled her to the ground after she wandered around a Moscow street holding the infant’s severed head in the air , shouting “Allahu Akbar” and threatening to blow herself up.
Eyewitnesses said at the time they believed she was carrying out a terrorist act, but since her detention, Russian investigators have raised the possibility she might be suffering from mental illness.
Investigators said she had been working as a nanny for a Moscow family and that she had murdered and beheaded one of the children in her care before setting fire to the family flat and fleeing.
State television channels did not report the incident, a move that drew accusations of censorship from some opposition activists but which the Kremlin endorsed, saying it would have been wrong to broadcast such “horrific images”.
Her head was uncovered when she made her latest court appearance, and she appeared relaxed, occasionally yawning, in contrast to Monday when she had been dressed in black and wearing a hijab.
As she sat in the metal cage, Bobokulova waved and said:
I am Allah’s messenger. Hello everyone.
Meanwhile it is reported here that Muslim groups have said that the shocking incident had nothing whatsoever to do with “life-is-holy” Islam.
In announcing a charity fundraiser for the family of the dead girl, the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Moscow said:
The Muslims regret that this crime, which is beyond understanding from the point of view of both universal human morals and religion, is being presented as committed by a person who regards herself as a Muslim.
Not only the fact that the woman has officially been found to be insane, but also the fact that life is holy to believers, leave no doubt that the morals of the person who killed an innocent child are endlessly far from being truly religious.
