US Jewelry chain is branded 'demonic' by Christian fanatic

US Jewelry chain is branded 'demonic' by Christian fanatic December 9, 2016

On his ‘Pray In Jesus Name’ programme this week, unhinged Christian and Colorado state Representative Gordon Klingenschmitt encouraged his viewers to join the Religious Right’s boycott of Zales because the jewelry store featured a lesbian couple in a recent TV commercial.
According to Right Wing Watch, Klingenschmitt said that advertising executives at Zales are under “demonic possession”, which is causing them to promote “ungodly things” like gay marriage.

Gordon Klingenschmitt

It is a demonic spirit not only inside of the lesbian couple who are pretending to get married in this TV commercial, but now influencing and ruling in the hearts of the ad executives who have decided at Zales Jewelers that they should promote this as a good thing to all of America. They are deceivers, they are fooling the America public and we need to expose that as wrong.

Former Navy chaplain Klingenschmitt then prayed that God will “liberate America from the tyranny of these deceptive images” and that Americans will resist Zales’ “attempt to re-educate us.”
Klingenschmitt’s braying follows a report that a right-wing Christian outfit called One Million Moms had earlier called for a boycott of Zales, a company that’s been in business in the US since 1924.
On its website, OMM released a statement accusing Zales of attempting to “normalize sin”.
It calls for people to boycott the brand, visit Zales stores to give store managers ear-ache, and urge Zales to pull the commercial and “remain neutral” in the culture wars.
OMM added:

An even greater concern is that the commercial is airing when children are likely watching television. To make matters worse, this ad has aired during family viewing time such as football games and prime-time shows.

As a result, Zales social media channels have been flooded. And no post – not even an innocuous one advertising Bulova watches – has been spared from outrage.
LGBTQ supporters are being vocal as well, pledging to back Zales with their wallets this holiday season.

HaRray!! To Zales for standing for right instead of what is dictated by a bunch of xtian bigoted aholes with money!!

  • Raul Miller

What a shock, religious idiots against love and tolerance; standing on the wrong side of history yet again. Same as it ever was.

  • Broga

“Former Navy chaplain Klingenschmitt ……..” If Gordon had influence in the navy you can see why Putin is feeling confident. Advertising execs are under “demonic possession.” Gordon is bonkers and very funny but we shouldn’t laugh at the afflicted.
Interesting outfit he is wearing. Looks like something a snake has shuffled off. Anyone else got a classy outfit like that?

  • AgentCormac

Demonic possession, eh? Whatever next, seas being parted? Walking on water? Rising from the dead? Being Klingonschmitt must be like living in a Harry Potter movie 24/7.

I often do wonder what is nicer for Children. The Image of two women happy and smiling and next to each other and in a marriage ceremony or is it reading the babble for example all the nice parts such as where there are ‘stories’ whereby a man instead of getting raped himself allows an entire village to gang rape his daughter and later his slave and the slave is raped to death.
These people really have not got their Morals or social mores into a developed state whereby they have any right to Tell others how to behave.

  • Barry Duke

“Being Klingonschmitt” could well be the title of an hilarious documentary, AgentCormac. Bill Maher, of Religulous fame would have a field day. (

Remarkable how happiness and kindness seem to infuriate faith fundamentalists. Presumably it’s because their gods are so hideously punishing that nice human nature is a defeat in itself. These are virtues, no less persuasive than reason and evidence, we should try hard to exemplify.

Gordon Klingenschmitt: The cringing dolts’ monk.
Let’s hope Zales can make as good a riposte as did Nabisco/Honey Maid a couple of years ago when they were lambasted by the bigots over the exact same thing.

OT, but I just had to share…
According to the Spiritual Science Research Foundation (which must be legit, since it has “science” in the name!):
The main reason behind the gay orientation of some men is that they are possessed by female ghosts. It is the female ghost in them that is attracted to other men. Conversely the attraction to females experienced by some lesbians is due to the presence of male ghosts in them. The ghost’s consciousness overpowers the person’s normal behaviour to produce the homosexual attraction. Spiritual research has shown that the cause for homosexual preferences lie predominantly in the spiritual realm.
    • Physical causes (5%): Due to hormonal changes.
    • Psychological causes (10%): Having an experience with a person of the same sex as a teenager or young adult that was pleasurable and therefore wanting to experience it again.
    • Spiritual causes (85%): Mainly ghosts.

Daz, I notice that all the ways of contacting them, asking a question etc require creating an account. If I have time I will set up a new email as I would be interested in their response to a couple of questions but I am not going to let a bunch like that have a my regular email and risk a torrent of spam.
I should be used to it by now but it still amazes me the trouble religious and nutbar groups have with homosexuality.

See … this is what religiously inculcated sexual repression does to people. In the name of god, make people ashamed of themselves, tell them that sex is dirty and disgusting, tell them that the natural release of sexual tension, masturbation, is punishable by god inflicted blindness and other horrible physical afflictions, tell them that premarital sex is a sin, condition people to treat nudity as an abnormal and abhorrent state … and this is what you get … a bunch of people so obsessed by the sex lives of other people that they behave in the most obnoxious, hateful and uncharitable ways imaginable.

  • Bill Bonk

Methinks Klingtoschitt protesteth too much. I wonder what “abominable” sexual activities he got involved with in the Navy? I wonder what gay guilts he is trying to absolve himself of? I expect he has had his mind so damaged by religious prejudices that he is mentally ripping himself apart by pious denial of his sexuality.
And I predict it will not be long before he is claiming that evil spirits are responsible for the soon to be exposed homosexual trysts with juvenile rent boys. Poor sod.
I can’t see why its so hard to say … “so fucking what … I’m gay … just like millions of other people”. And it would free him and endow him with the invaluable respect of millions of decent well balanced honest people. Yes, he would be ostracised by his current circle of rabid acolytes but are such people really worth bothering with? I think not.

  • Bill Bonk

The answer to the above is of course that Klingtoschitt, like unknown numbers of others, is lumbered with his dilemma because he makes his living from godly activities. He has to much invested, his livelihood and pension ahve him trapped by the short and curls. Fess up now and the only course left open is to register with the nearest food bank, go buy a tent and find a commune of like down and outs. Poor sod.

Daz: What on earth is “spiritual research”? There is a video on YouTube (and elsewhere) of the British evangelist the late “Dr” Eric Hutchings (flapping his arms about like a windmill” as one brother observed) preaching on the text: “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”. He actually refers to this statement as “a scientific statement of spiritual fact”. The mind boggles.
The people lauding this charlatan also speak in glowing terms of the “ex-witch” Doreen Irving, of whom we have spoken before. ‘Nuff said!

  • Name one battle Christianity has won in the 19th or 20th Centuries. Maintain slavery? Lessen divorce? Creationism in public schools? Outlaw abortion? They lose and they lose every single time. They will lose about homosexuality as well.
My hope is that in my lifetime homosexuality will be as boring as being left handed. “I’m a lefty.” “Oh? So what?”

  • AgentCormac

    @ Trevor Blake
And with the likes of Andrea Minicello Williams, CEO of the Christian Legal Centre, leading the charge on the xtian legal front, I very much doubt that they can look forward to a change in fortunes any day soon. Which is just fine by me.

I guess I’m alone in being offended by the notion that marriage is always connected to jewelry. It reaffirms the notion that only the marriage of the wealthy is legitimate.
I couldn’t care less what the opinion is of Representative Dingleberry.

    Love has no gender.
    Love has no gender.
    Love has no gender.
A heavy object will fall faster than a lighter object – wrong, even though intuitively it appears to make sense.
Man attracts woman and woman attracts man – wrong, even though intuitively it appears to make sense.
    Love has no gender.
These four words, once their deep truth begins to dawn in peoples’ minds, will eventually tear apart the world’s organised religions, and I for one can’t wait!

  • andym

Zales wouldn’t have made this ad naively. They’d know there’d be a backlash from religious fascists. But they obviously think the net reaction will be positive. Which is in itself positive.

  • Stephen Mynett

Andym, a friend works in advertising and she always maintains that a negative reaction is often better than a positive one as those who moan tend to shout louder and more often, this means the company message gets across to far more people than if the ad was just on TV or at cinemas. Plus, the moaners, whether they be religious crackpots, mad politicos etc tend to be regarded negatively by most people, so the reaction to the company that has upset the loonies is often positive.

Re the comment – generally true – by Trevor B. above. One victory for faith happening here and now is the creation of totally selective faith schools – dreadful. (The Dept. of Education has an on-line consultation ‘Schools that work for everyone’ – closes on 12th.)

  • barriejohn

Edwin Salter et al: Mother Theresa May is going to allow 100% religious selection in schools in future. Both the NSS and BHA are campaigning against this – I received a mailing from the latter only this morning.

What I find more concerning is that this idiot is an elected Colorado state Representative.
What kind of people voted for this dimwit?
I know, it is all just part of a project to dumb down the US!

  • Angela_K

@barriejohn. I did my on-line reply a couple of days ago and deliberately did not use the word faith but the correct word: religious. The word “faith” sounds too fluffy.

  • Jim

The Light came into the world but people prefer darkness. How outrageous a notion that our Creator might demand something from us.Every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. Do it now so God doesn’t have to break your legs to accomplish this. If you want to be in the kingdom you best bow to the King. Just sayin’.

  • Angela_K

@Jim. Take your medication and take your trolling nonsense elsewhere, we’ve heard this type of bullshit before.

  • John

If Jim wants to spend the rest of his life on his knees that is his affair but he has no right to expect anyone else to ape his stupid behaviour and conduct.
