Disney refuses to accept anti-gay petition, tells bigot to get lost

Disney refuses to accept anti-gay petition, tells bigot to get lost June 13, 2019

CHRISTIAN Concern, a nasty little British outfit made up of perpetually outraged bigots, is seething over the fact that Disney in London rejected an anti-gay petition, and told a woman who tried to present it to vacate its premises.

The petition was started when homophobes got wind of the fact that Disneyland Paris was about to officially hosted its first LGBT Pride event on June 1, making it the first Disney theme park to do so.

A day before the event Caroline Farrow, above left, Campaign Director for CitizenGO in the UK and Ireland, slithered over to Disney’s headquarters, accompanied by Mickey Mouse and a Christian Concern camera person, to present the petition signed by 250,000. This number has now swelled to almost 400,000.

Speaking outside Disney’s headquarters, Farrow – an “independent freelance journalist, broadcaster and commentator, specialising in Catholicism and feminism” – explained how the Pride event ran contrary to Disney’s “family-friendly values”:

Gay pride events are synonymous with lewd behaviour, sexualised behaviour. You see participants who are semi-naked, who are wearing wholly inappropriate, sexual fetish, BDSM costumes, and this is just not suitable in a park that is designed for family-friendly entertainment.

Moreover, Disney are advertising their parade as being about love and diversity. But what this is, is an indoctrination of young families and young children of the whole LGBT ideology.

Christian Concern, founded by the loopy Christian extremist Andrea Minichiello Williams, above, whined:

Despite a lawful and peaceful approach to protesting the Pride event, Ms Farrow was asked to vacate the premises and Disney officials refused to accept the petition. However, Ms Farrow said she would not give up, and promised to send them the signatories of the petition.

Farrow later commented:

This is the voice of 250,000 of their customers saying, look, we do not want this to happen in a family-friendly park. They will hear our voice. We were behaving completely reasonably and I’m sorry they wouldn’t accept the petition.

In the video below, Farrow insists that the protest was a secular and “not a religious one.”

The petition complains:

Unfortunately, Disney’s parks are no longer family-friendly. This Saturday, thousands of children at Disneyland Paris will be indoctrinated with the LGBT agenda. On Saturday, June 1st, Disney will host its first Gay Pride Parade… in an amusement park created for families and children!

Can you believe that they would stoop as low as indoctrinating children in a place like Disney?

Please sign this petition to ask Disney to protect children and cancel the Gay Pride Parade on Saturday.

I’m sure the LGTB lobby is already counting this as a victory for their dangerous agenda.

We cannot sit by and allow a gay pride parade to be held in this purportedly family-friendly venue. We cannot allow Disney to indoctrinate our children in an entertainment area that is intended for all audiences.

Christian Concern reports that:

Until the mid-1980s, Disney had previously prohibited same-sex couples from dancing and performing at their theme parks. However, for the last few years, Disney resorts around the world have allowed independent groups to stage Pride events, but have deliberately chosen not to advertise, promote or organise the events.

Four years ago, Disneyland Paris allowed a travel agency to gather in the park for happy hour drinks with an LGBT theme. This gathering has gradually garnered more support, last year attracting some 300 people.

However this year, Disneyland Paris took the unprecedented step to host the event, labelling it ‘Magical Pride’. Writing in the Los Angeles Times, travel journalist Hugo Martin stated that the decision to host this year’s Pride parade marked ‘a dramatic shift for the world’s biggest theme park operator.’

Update: I was was prompted by a someone who left a comment on this site to email CitizenGO to ask:

Can you inform me whether you had permission from Disney to use images of Mickey and Minny Mouse for your petition, as well as sending someone dressed as Micky Mouse to Disney’s London H/Q? If not it would appear that you have violated the company’s intellectual property rights for your hateful petition. See https://info.legalzoom.com/legal-use-disney-characters-21231.html
I look forward to your response.

    “…Caroline Farrow, above left.”

    I LOL’d. Out loud.

  • adhoc

250,000 who will never visit the park anyway.

  • epeeist

As ever one has to ask, where do these people get their money from?

  • Tawreos

They get some from the people they scare into giving by promising that they are the only ones that can fix it, but I bet they also get some if not most from big donors that want to keep people scared of something they have no reason to fear so they ignore something they should actually fear. The best part of being religious is never having to reveal your donor list.

  • The Bofa on the Sofa

    1) Um, you will never get into a Disney park dressed as Mickey Mouse. Aside from the fact that Disney does not allow adults in costume (except at Halloween), they are VERY protective of their costumed characters. Hell, they will never have two of the same (official) characters at the same park at the same time, even. So if they’ve got Mickey in the Meet Mickey area (which they do at Magic Kingdom for something like 16 hours a day), you will never see him wandering around the park. And they sure as hell won’t let some outsider come around dressed as Mickey. Petition aside, that is enough to get you booted.

Unfortunately, Disney’s parks are no longer family-friendly.

All I have to say is, if that is how you feel, DON’T GO! Please, stay away.
It will make it a lot easier for those of us who do go to Disney if you aren’t there.

  • Etranger

The gay day events seem silly to me. But they must make the theme parks a lot of money! Otherwise they would not do them.

  • “Mummy, why are they beating that man?”

“They’re showing what happened to Jesus when he gave us salvation.”

“But, Mummy, if Jesus is part of God, why didn’t he just use his powers to stop the bad men, and give everyone salvation?”

  • Cozmo the Magician

I wonder how she got the Mouse costume. Disney is VERY protective of their property. Very shocked they have not at least sent her a cease and desist for using their property to promote her message.

This is one case were I WANT to see the ‘house of mouse’ stomp somebody.

  • Cozmo the Magician

You forgot the BBQ of aborted fetuses. And the midnight bible-burning bonfire.

  • ArtK

Disneyland’s (Anaheim) been selling rainbow ears for at least a year now. Probably in Florida as well. There’s been an unofficial Gay Days at Disneyland for years.

Their boycott of Disney will go over about as well as the boycott of Starbucks.

  • Barry Duke

Good point Cozmo. Using The Mouse for a hateful agenda has to be as violation of Disney’s intellectual property rights. Ditto the image used on their petition. https://info.legalzoom.com/legal-use-disney-characters-21231.html

  • llDayo

However, Ms Farrow said she would not give up, and promised to send them the signatories of the petition.

Some poor employee is about to be given a large shredding job…

  • Pennybird

People who find the park not family friendly aren’t taking their families there anyway because it’s too dang expensive.

“Gay pride events are synonymous with lewd behaviour, sexualised behaviour.” says someone from a religious sect that can’t manage to stop thinking about sex for one. lousy. minute.

  • Stephen Mynett

“250,000 who will never visit the park anyway.”
You could have added: “and most of them had probably never heard of it until asked to sign the dumb petition.”

  • Jim Jones

    > You see participants who are semi-naked, who are wearing wholly inappropriate, sexual fetish, BDSM costumes.

IME, the sure signs of a fun party.

  • Raging Bee

Yeah, it looks like the mascot is holding a sign saying it’s HIS park.

  • Cozmo the Magician

I need to check that pic again and see if there is evidence it might even be shopped. I can’t believe that disney did nothing more than not allow her thru the gates. If that mouse was there I have a feeling they would have been A) escorted off the property and then B) handed a cease and desists all within 2 mins of them being seen.. Oh and C) a restraining order against coming back on property.

Even when it is obvious fair use under copyright law, Disney STILL has a tendency to Sue First.. worry about the law later.

  • Raymond Metcalfe

I always wondered what the gay agenda was I asked some one in the pub a while back what the gay agenda was after he was moaning about it being pushed down his throat. I bet him beer that he couldn’t tell me what the gay agenda was and had he ever seen one. Had he read about it in the hate mail. I got the beer

  • persephone

If it’s an online petition, I would guess that most of those signatures are based on multiple email addresses. I have half a dozen email addresses, and most people have at least a couple.

Kind of like the Million Moms who are actually only a few thousand.

  • persephone

I’d love to see them buy tickets then tear them up.

  • Don Rowlett

I would say that the children are much safer at a Disney Gay Pride event than they are at a church.

  • Robert Serrano

That’s silly. How can you torture or murder a being that could literally negate it’s own pain and/or death?

  • Vincent Owen Gonzalez

    Thank you Disney!!

  • ms. williams looks like she’s using the line of cruella deville makeup.

  • MystiqueLady

    Yeah — That’ll show Disney! 8:D

  • MystiqueLady

People like her don’t care about the rights of others.

  • Odd Exonerated Oranges

    We were behaving completely reasonably

Yeah, that`s not what those words mean.

  • It looks as if it’s outside any Park facilities, on a regular street. Even so, the Disney people will find her. They don’t take Mickey abuse lightly.

  • Odd Exonerated Oranges

I`m surprised they got of the lot without a beating, literal or legal. You don`t mess with the Mouse.

  • Yvonne Thompson

lol no, really, it’s post consumer waste, and we used it to hold the seedlings in the greenhouse, ooh!! that would be something to see from the business.. the paper waste, on site reused!!!

  • Fraser

Notice the continual emphasis on “indoctrination” and “agenda” and the need to “protect our kids”. If it weren’t for her and others like her pride would not be a thing, however, they continually demonstrate the need for a pride.

  • ClanSutherland

Disney was one of the first companies to offer health coverage for gay partners. They have a non-discrimination policy for the LGBTQ that was in place years ago. They are very pro-family including cis gender, single parent, LGBTQ, adopted, and blended families.
Christians write those same people off.

  • ClanSutherland

Guessing you’re straight, white, male and probably christian.
Those are usually the folks that call a day “free from the systemic oppression of society” and the pain that causes them, “silly.”

  • Etranger

Oh gosh, nothing could be farther from the truth! Long time gay activist here. But I tend to stick to the issues and important things. Even pride parades have become a bit weird – same stalls / vendors at the pride events that are at all the other city events. Heck even here in Denver no other beer can be served because it is run by Coors! If we want to fight for freedom from systemic oppression in society and the pain it causes us, let’s actually have a march and then a celebration! All for it. A gay day at Disney doesn’t really achieve anything. The great thing about the strides we have made is that you can go to theme parks any day of the year now as an out gay person!

  • Etranger

response coming…it is too wordy and thoughtful for this blog I guess. Every comment is “pending” here…

  • Etranger

Hi Moderator – any reason why my comments with substance are constantly moderated? What did I do here?!

  • Barry Duke

TWO flags Mytiquelady: “dummy” and “job”

  • Barry Duke

I’ve reported this directly to the Disney Corporation via its intellectual property rights link. Waiting to see what response, if any, I get.

  • Barry Duke

Nothing whatsover. No-one has a clue what’s going on with the comments. I’ve had to cut my sleeping hours by half to deal with accumulated comments, and it’s doing my goddamn head in.

  • Etranger

Oh I’m sorry. I am just making sure I wasn’t banned or something. Ugh what a pain for you. At the end of the day it is not worth losing sleep for something trite!!

  • TheBookOfDavid

It’s like they learned everything they know about activism from watching vegan anti-discrimination groups boycott Chik-Fil-A. The only surprising result was a Disney official not politely accepting their petition, arriving with a burn barrel for immediate processing.

  • TheBookOfDavid

Yeah, indoctrination is rampant, not in church and Sunday school and vacation bible school, but at theme parks and festivals. It’s all part of the LGBTQ Agenda to promote fun, diversity, and cooperation, and self-empowerment. Kids have no defense against these insidious doctrines, so it’s up to the brave folks of Christian Concern to stand between them and the tyranny of tolerance.

  • Duncan R. Bryson

Was going to say the same. The word “indoctrination” jumped out. They are oblivious to the irony because they are indoctrinated!

  • Duncan R. Bryson

I’d noticed a possible copywrite infringement.

  • Phil

Can you believe that they would stoop as low as indoctrinating children in a place like a church?

  • 24CaratHooligan

I understand where you’re coming from… I went to Cardiff Pride last year which was awesome but I noticed it was a little bit skewed towards the younger people. There was a small handful of older folk there and nothing makes my heart melt more than an elderly gay couple of any gender sitting holding hands or whatever. They’re the people who really went through the mill, they probably remember when it was still illegal in the UK and without them we wouldn’t even be having Pride marches.

  • 24CaratHooligan

Well I looked at a rainbow once and I suddenly turned bi. It’s a very real concern y’know.

  • 24CaratHooligan

Unfortunately this year we were unable to source any due to the Alabama bill. We’re looking into getting some heart cells for that freshly beating vibe.

  • zenlike

Why yes, you did protest lawfully and peacefully, and Disney told you lawfully and peacefully to go pound sand.

  • Cozmo the Magician

How long before the right-wing-fundie-nutz adopt this song?

  • Cozmo the Magician

How long before the wing-nutz decide that ‘Marty Graaah’ is ‘Ben Gahazi’ in drag? O_o

  • Pennybird

Yes, Disney has always been at the forefront, and good on them. Christians would be less cranky about this sort of thing if they understood Jesus.

(An aside: when my friends and I were there in the late 1970s we weren’t allowed to dance together. They had a strict a boy/girl rule, so we were asked to leave the dance floor. I don’t hold it against them because it was the 70s. I doubt I held it against them at the time either, but it was silly. It’s nice to see them evolve.)

  • MystiqueLady

    Stupid filter.

  • Broga

“we do not want this to happen in a family-friendly park.” That means no priests admitted.

  • Broga

Physically, sexually, emotionally, educationally, mentally churches are danger areas to be avoided.

  • Broga

And has provided such a safe haven for paedophiles for centuries that it became a magnet for paedophiles and paedophile priests now infest it.

  • Philip Buczko

Disney has realised the power and attractiveness of the ‘pink pound’ (or dollar).

  • Barry Duke

That, Philip, is called the “Dorothy Dollar”. Just saying.

  • PaulSJenkins

However this year, Disneyland Paris took the unprecedented step to host the event, labelling it ‘Magical Pride’.

This is what’s known as “progress”.

  • Cozmo the Magician

There is list of ‘banned’ words that is infecting comments at varios patheos blogs. Even when the authors take the time to edit the list. It gets ‘updated’ frequently. The list appears to be a wet dream created by fundies hoping to get people to just STFU about many things.

Peeps have found a workaround IF you know a word is on the list just put in ‘&’#8203 in the middle of the words (without the quotes) it places an invisible character in the word that helps bypass the filter.

scroll down to comments here for one version of the list –>

  • Cozmo the Magician

Sigh.. my comment below go sunk by the CenshorShip.. you should still be able to click and read it.

  • Cozmo the Magician

Oh Snap! I was thinking about doing it myself. I did try to see if I could find evidence that the pic was shopped. Or even find context for it. Found nothing with reverse image searches. Looking at the pic with photo-forensics the sign being help by the mouse and package in her hands do stand out. But that tools is very much open to interpetation and my skills are limited.

  • Etranger

    Such good information! Thank you

  • Barry Duke

Cozmo if you watch the video its clear that the Mouse was used to convey a message that suggests Disney was making its premises “unsafe” for children. https://youtu.be/oktmKpst81M

    No image manipulation involved.

But if you look at the image on the actual petition it is clear that two Disney characters were created to convey a message of disapproval of gays. I’m no lawyer, but to me it seems that the video and the petition image have been appropriated to advance an extreme Christian right-wing agenda, and runs contrary to Disney’s equality values. If I were Disney I’d sue CitizenGO to hell and back! https://www.citizengo.org/en/fm/170931-stop-lgbt-indoctrination-disneyland

The woman in the the video, Caroline Farrow, has a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/caroline.farrow.52 and I have just messaged her to ask whether she had permission to play fast and loose with Disney intellectual property.

  • Duncan R. Bryson

This has nothing to do with the article. I’ve seen your (user?) name before. It’s the Greek goddess of the underworld. Have done some sailing and like it for the name of a yacht. No yacht yet though – still doing the lottery 🙂

  • Cozmo the Magician

Ahh.. I didn’ see the video.. Thought it was just a single image. But yeah.. Disney will hopefully come down on her with the full weight of the Mouse’s legal dept (:

Those bigots need to start their own ‘family friendly’ successful resort park like the oh so popular “Ark Encounter.” HAHAHAHHA
