It’s just a silly icon, so get over it Poland! June 19, 2019

THE Catholic Church in Poland is planning ‘services of reparation’ across the country on Sunday, June 23, because of the ‘profane’ use of the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa by LGBT activists during a Pride march on Sunday in the city of Częstochowa.

The marchers, according to this report, were about to descend on a religious pilgrimage for kids – the 20th Pilgrimage of the Children’s Backyard Rosary Circles (phew)  – but were kept away by police and a bunch of homophobic extremists.

The marchers were reportedly heading towards the Shrine of Jasna Góra but their path was blocked by police and the right-wing demonstrators.

According to Polish website Polonia Christiana, there were fears that the LGBT march would “invade” the sanctuary of Jasna Góra, where the icon of the Black Madonna of Częstochowa is housed.

Members of a group calling itself the Men’s Defence of Jasna Góra (Męska Obrona Jasnej Góry) were among those who blocked paths to the shrine while police lined the marchers’ official route, keeping them far from the children’s event.

Polonia Christiana reported that Częstochowa’s Archbishop Wacław Depo, had judged the city’s second LGBT parade to be:

A deliberate provocation aimed at the children in the whole of Catholic Poland.

The website also mentioned that the LGBT marchers “profaned” the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa by depicting her with a rainbow for a halo and also carried banners combining the national symbol of the eagle with the Pride flag.

On Sunday afternoon, Radio Maryja, one of Poland’s most prominent media organisations, thanked the Catholics who guarded the shrine.

Its affiliate Nasz Dziennik (Our Daily) reported that there will be services of reparation across the country on June 23.

Nasz Dziennik reported this week that Archbishop Gądecki, the Chairman of the Polish Episcopal Conference, observed that the incidences of “profanation” have increased as a consequences of Pride marches in Poland. He said:

The official reason for organizing [these] marches is concern for greater tolerance in society. Meanwhile they become a place of obscene displays as well as an opportunity to show contempt for Christianity, including parodies of liturgy of the Eucharist, and to incite hatred towards the Church and clergy.

Last month an LGBT activist was arrested in connection with the Easter weekend appearance of the “adulterated” Black Madonna of Częstochowa on public toilets and trash cans near a Catholic church in the central Polish city of Płock.

Offending religious sensibilities is a crime in Poland, and there are few more potent symbols in Poland of the Catholic faith than the icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa.
Polish Catholics also prevented LGBT activists from disrupting a mass pilgrimage at Częstochowa’s Jasna Góra shrine during the city’s first Pride March in 2018.

Hmmm. trying to think of a word that describes these katlic bigots… oh yeah.. i got it ‘snowflakes’

  • I wonder if the non-religious could sue the Catholic Church for profaning their lack of belief…

  • Chris Hogue

Ironically, they’re just trying to keep those pedophiles away from their children.

  • Mark in Ohio

Too bad the bible doesn’t say anything about worshiping idols. Oh, wait…

  • Robert Conner

Think of it as another Pollack joke and it kind of makes sense.

  • Norman Parron

    Your title says it all!

  • Wisdom, Justice, Love

    They’re catholic right?
It’s not in their 10 Commandments. Easy to follow the rule when they align with your “preferences”. Convenient.

  • Kwa czorek

How about dressing prophet Mohammed with a rainbow gown and plaster it all over world media? Would that just be a silly icon too? Or would your throat be slashed?

So you are proud of being similarly ignorant and reactive to Muslims….or do you just hope the cops shoot those blasphemers next time?

  • mordred

    Sharia envy!

Only if you are not in USA, cuz know what would happen when they try anything with me and my two friends, Smith and Wesson! So yes it is a silly icon too. ALL religious icons are silly pieces of art! And as far as the xtians are concerned to have the image of mary is a sin, it says so in their book o’BS!

  • ralphmeyer

Stupid icon… and Mary, according to Biblical Historians wasn’t a virgin by any means. Such stupid stuff doesn’t happen, but the Gospel stories were clearly made up of Old Testament crud to make it look like Jesus was this wonder worker. Strange that the Gospels didn’t appear until well over a hundred or more years after he supposedly lived, and although the period when he supposedly lived was a well documented period of Roman history of all provinces, not a thing is mentioned about any so-called Jesus or miracle worker in any of those non-propagandistic histories. The Gospels are therefore pretty much fiction. There is even a fair number of Biblical Historians who say there NEVER was a real human being by the name of Jesus (Greek-Roman) or Jeshua (Aramaic). It’s all fiction.

I’m afraid I disapprove of this kind of behaviour. Icons are not just religious items; they frequently have enormous cultural value like this Polish image of Virgin and Child. I’m an atheist and reject the fairy tale of Christianity but it has produced some of the most sublime art human beings have ever created.

  • guerillasurgeon

    Someone’s already said this I guarantee… But now it’s a “gay icon” ?

  • rubaxter

    BigFD.

The art was produced as ‘Christer’ only because there was NO ALTERNATIVE.

And, it was still the INDIVIDUAL HUMANS that produced the art, not the Gawd, so ‘Christianity’ is mostly irrelevant except as a mere means for the artists not to starve, almost. For example, let’s not forget why composers like Mozart fled church oppression as he did when leaving Salzburg for Vienna.

  • rubaxter

Reminds me so VERY much of trips into the Coal Regions of Pennsyl-bama, and not in a good, intelligent way. Huge Polish contingent there, and about as progressive.

  • rubaxter

    WhatTF does this matter?

    This isn’t about Muslims.

  • Bob Pattinson

I appreciate that religion is the main source of hostility towards us and it behoves us to use reason when ridiculing the fairy tale which believers invoke to justify their hatred. We have to temper our resentment and refrain from ridiculing great art.

  • Nica

Sure. But this image w/ its gross disproportionality between mother & child (or, rather, shrunken adult pretending to be a kid) isn’t “sublime”.

  • Lilly Munster

Poland, just like the Fascist, violent, genocidal State of Israel, are Police States. Jews in Israel are violent Fascists. Catholics in Poland are equally dangerous and insane. RELIGION IS TOXIC! It poisons minds, causes hatred, misogyny, homophobia, Islamophobia, and every form of human hatred that ever existed.

  • Sophotroph

    You sound jealous.

    Almost eager.

  • John Norris

the LGBT marchers “profaned” the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa

So that explains why their god punished the gays in Poland by sending earthquakes to California.

  • Raging Bee

I’m willing to bet it’s produced even more sublime art — which ended up in the memory-hole because the establishment didn’t approve.
