Preacher abused a drag queen and threatened kids with hell

Preacher abused a drag queen and threatened kids with hell August 20, 2019

AN evangelical preacher who gatecrashed a Drag Queen Story Time event in Ottawa got short shrift from parents, who objected to the way he loudly abused performer Adrianna Exposée.

The preacher, Dorre Love, was booed by the parents when he began spouting biblical baloney and accused Exposée of “dressing like a whore”. He also asked those attending the event:

Are you teaching children to be whores?

Love was one of a group of religious protesters who  interrupted the Westcliffe Community Centre event on Saturday, claiming it was “child abuse.”

Organisers say the interruption was “hateful” and “bigoted” and called the police. No one, however, was arrested.

Exposée said she’s open to hearing different points of view, but the way in which protesters interrupted her show was shocking and wrong.

I found it very inappropriate. We did rent out the space for ourselves to educate kids on what we believe, which is inclusion, diversity and love. I’m open to hearing all opinions, always. I am a very open-minded person, but to come in here, in that way, in that manner – it was hateful.

Exposée said she was comforted by the fact that people stood up to the protester and asked him to leave.

Megan Loney, an organiser of the event, said she was so devastated by what happened she immediately left the room when the man began speaking.

It was so the opposite of what today was supposed to be. It was supposed to be about diversity and inclusivity and love and fun, and what happened was the total opposite of that. It was hateful and it was bigoted.

Tristan and Michelle Maack brought their two young sons to the event to teach them about diversity. Tristan Maack said:

We always tell them to accept all people and people can be whatever way they want to be.

But he added that it was an unfortunate ending to what was an otherwise great event.

I just think that’s a really sad thing that they would come all the way here on a Saturday, just to tell people they’re wrong. I just feel sorry for those people.

Loney said it was at least encouraging to see parents stand up to the protesters.

I think there are more people who are loving and welcoming and compassionate than there are hateful, bigoted and spiteful.

Capital Pride, which kicked off on Sunday, issued a statement to condemn the protesters.

The violent and hateful incidents that occurred at a community organized family drag story time have no place in our community. These acts are aimed only at silencing and dividing our communities. We will not be silenced. We will unite and will not stop our efforts to build a more inclusive community.

While street preaching against homosexuality, Love is repeatedly told to ‘fuck off’ by an angry man. Image via YouTube.

According to far-right Christian website LifeSiteNews, Love told those at the event:

The Bible says that men are men and women are women. And men shouldn’t dress like women, and women shouldn’t dress like men. That’s a sin. And the Bible says that the wages of sin are death.

And the imbecile threatened the children with hell:

Believe in Jesus, kids. Don’t believe in LGBT. Kids, if you don’t want to go to hell, believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus died for you. Jesus died for that drag queen. Jesus died for everyone.

He said that if they did not believe in Jesus Christ, they would be thrown in a lake of fire.

Are you teaching children to be whores?
Every time one of these DQSH stories comes up, I ask the same question:
Can you show me ONE interview with a kid who is “hurt” by the experience?
Can you show me ONE BIT of evidence that anyone was hurt by it?

    You won’t, because you can’t.

YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT THE TRUTH.

Wow – Patheos mods me because I quoted the original text…

Typical Christian, spouts quotes from an Iron Age book of myths, fables and lies and then threatens kids with “my boogeyman’ll get ya!”

Thank goodness that parents are more clued up about religion than they were when I was young. Maybe the objections should be about the dangerous nonsense with which children are indoctrinated at church and sunday school ( as well as “faith schools”, of course). Years ago parents just assumed that their children were being taught “Bible stories” and being given a grounding in morality; I actually heard some say that. How wrong they were. Remember Jesus Camp? It still goes on behind closed doors today, and children are still taught “choruses” about sin, death, hell, and the “precious blood of Jesus”, if you please!

I’ve seen some of Jesus Camp – child abuse. It will become illegal; in one country then another…

I saw this story on another website. Christians are an odd breed. Their lack of self-awareness is amazing. They simply don’t see the impression they’re making on other people. Or do they see it and they simply don’t care? In any case, their ignorance is as usual rather depressing.

Believe in Jesus, kids. Don’t believe in LGBT.

“LGBT” is not something you believe in. That little point goes right over the heads.

He said that if they did not believe in Jesus Christ, they would be thrown in a lake of fire.

Who exactly is harming children? Drag queens simply read them stories. Apparently it’s never occurred to these Christians that telling little children they might end up in an everlasting fire might be harmful to them.

Unfortunate surname – Love. Also “child abuse”? Someone posted Jesus Camp.

When I was a boy we were visited about once a year by a “Children’s Evangelist”. He invariably told the children the story of “Duckie Quacker” in his Norfolk accent. To cut a (very) long story short, Duckie Quacker just WOULDN’T listen to his Mummy, and eventually got eaten by a fox (nothing to do with the Bible). By the end of the story most of the kids were in tears. “You don’t want to go to Hell and be punished in the Lake of Fire for all Eternity, do you children? Don’t be disobedient like Duckie Quacker, but ask Jesus to save you so that you will go to Heaven when you die.” You may detect a certain lack of logic here, but it didn’t matter, the result was that dozens of hands were raised as children volunteered to “give their hearts to Jesus”. He was a past master at getting “decisions”, and once that decision had been made the child was “saved” for ever. I know that this sort of thing still goes on today, but thankfully not to the extent that it once did (we had over 100 in the Sunday School at one time, with two others on adjoining council estates, and some evangelical churches that I knew of had two sessions). Anyone with no experience of fundamentalist Christians would never believe it, and I sometimes feel now as if I dreamt it all!

This doesn’t surprise me. I recall reading something quite a few years ago about a group of church people getting some sort of show together for children to depict all the horrors of hell. Their explanation was that it was perfectly permissible to scare the h*** out of little children in order to help them escape h*** in the afterlife. I.e., they want mind control, and they don’t care what they have to do to get it.

  • Raymond Metcalfe

I wonder how the preachers would react if some drag Queens gate crashed there Sunday sermon Screams of persecution would be heard miles away.

  • Ann Kah

How about their delusional notion that the force of their religious fervor will attract people to their religion, instead of having them be repelled by their bigotry? I suspect that outbursts like that only result in fewer Christians. Does that mean they don’t get their Jesus points? Do not collect $200, do not pass GO.

“And men shouldn’t dress like women.”

Looks like the priests in their long skirts and gaudy decorations are going straight into the pit of fire.

  • igotbanned999

I’m just worried that some wacko is going to shoot up one of these events soon. With the combination of right wing domestic terrorism and gun violence it seems inevitable.

  • Michael Neville

I’m certainly not attracted by displays of hatred. If their god has a hissy-fit over DQSH then I’m not encouraged to have anything to do with such a petty, small-minded, bigoted god.

Wow! Thanks. These dresses are so pretty. The kind of lace work embroidery must have been so expensive. And all the other decorative bits. Very impressive but I don’t think they are going to make the cut when they knock on the door of heaven. Definitely hell fodder there.

They could also be in be trouble with the animal rights supporters. That looks like a sheep nailed to the cross and not the usual victim.

  • Etranger

It is funny how religious believers feel it is necessary to push their beliefs on others. No one is pushing drag queen story time on anyone. No one is showing up to this man’s church and disrupting his hate-filled (one can only assume) sermons. But religious people want to impose their ideas of morality on everyone else. I’ve had enough.

  • Etranger

Totally. Of course, it would never happen. That is the difference between drag Queens and the religious. One group believes everyone should be left alone and the other group believes it is their mission to make everyone’s life miserable.

  • Duncan R. Bryson

I’ve been on already but had a look for this guy and screenshot this saying bringing the “love” of GOD:

Nothing like a Christian to ruin a perfectly fun day. It’s their stock in trade.

  • persephone

They aren’t really interested in converting people. They love the idea of being the chosen few, while the rest of us burn forever for persecuting them, by ignoring them or calling out their bad behavior.

  • persephone

There’s always one. I haven’t been to SF in ages, but I guarantee there’s at least one, and probably more, screaming and holding their signs condemning all of us.

  • Person223

Really? Drag queen story hour for kids is about leaving people alone?

  • Etranger

How is it not? Are you required to go? Were any of those parents required to take their kids? No. But they have the option. Leave people to make their own decisions and leave the options open. Religious folks can’t really comprehend that concept.

  • Etranger

It is. Did it really impede comprehension in this case?

  • Greg Jordan

Evangelicals can’t handle it if they can’t control everything according to their wishes.

May I just point out that RuPaul won three consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards (2016 – 2018) for his incredibly successful RuPaul’s Drag Race, so these people are definitely in the minority now, and they know it!

please forgive my bad spelling it is not my strong point.

No apology required. Your thoughts were quite clear!

  • barriejohn

What is “male dress” and “female dress”? It varies from culture to culture and from time to time, but, again, to Palestinian peasants about 2,500 years ago this would not have been so clear. In fact, men’s garb of that era is very similar to what is considered female wear in the Western world today. The whole stupid argument is just another aspect of this desire to show that “God” has drawn clear demarcations between male and female, human and animal, animal and vegetable, earth and “heaven”, and so on. The Bible even claims that he has set limits to the oceans, FFS!

  • Fred L Anthony

The only chl abuse at the even was fro the preacher himself when he threatened the kids with eternal dam
    nation

  • Now that movie is pants-wettingly terrifying.

I like me some horror, you know, but that one had me up for days.

  • Termagant

Thing is, he wasn’t quoting from anything but his own troubled, twisted mind. As a former Benedictine novitiate, I can tell you that the bible does not say what this man was saying.
