Satanists delighted over evangelist’s call to end ‘satanic’ pregnancies

FOLLOWING her most recent display of insanity – a call for divine intervention to end all ‘satanic’ pregnancies – Trump’s ‘spiritual adviser Paula Trump, above, has drawn praise from the The Satanic Temple … and flack from the The Freedom From Religion Foundation.

The FFRF said she should resign or be fired for appealing to Jesus Christ to:

Command all satanic pregnancies to miscarry right now.

But in an open letter to White, the Temple’s Lucien Greaves wrote:

We were very pleased this weekend to learn that you had recently publicly prayed for God to induce miscarriages in Satanic pregnancies. At a time in which Satanists have had to fight desperately to retain their bodily autonomy in the face of increasingly restrictive anti-abortion laws, we are glad that your ‘logic’ must necessarily lead you to support unrestricted abortion access for Satanists seeking to end unwanted pregnancies!

I am writing to ask you to take a bolder step in the name of your faith, and lend your support to our Religious Reproductive Rights campaign which seeks to invoke religious exemptions from abortion restrictions on behalf of Satanists.

Greaves, above, added:

Consistent with our tenets, which call for bodily autonomy and acting in accordance with best scientific evidence, TST religiously objects to many of the restrictions that states have enacted that interfere with abortion access. TST is taking many steps on behalf of our members and those who share our beliefs to establish exemptions from laws that do not promote the health and safety of patients and violate our conscience and beliefs.

As you know, more than half of all abortions in the United States are sought by Christian women, while 38% are sought by the nonreligious, and only 8% are sought by women who belong to a non-Christian religion. So it is especially forward-thinking of you to single out Satanists as deserving of expressing the reproductive freedoms they champion.

While the Satanic Temple is officially nontheistic, we do hold as one of our central tenets that, ‘One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.’ We are delighted to learn that you share that view.

We are impressed at your integrity in boldly supporting our reproductive rights, especially as many of your cohorts dishonestly equate abortion with ‘baby killing’, a notion completely at odds with science. It will not come as news to you that, according to the Centers for Disease Control, 91% of abortions in America are performed before the thirteenth week of pregnancy, when it is scientifically impossible for the fetus to experience conscious pain. By contrast, a newly-hatched chicken is far more conscious. There is more ethical quandary in a chicken sandwich than in a first-trimester abortion.

It was a true relief to all of us at The Satanic Temple to see you in particular defending our health care rights, as we know that you will put your substantial fortune where your mouth is. While exact figures are unknown, you are estimated to carry a net worth of roughly $5 million. The average abortion is roughly $500. Thus, ten of our members could exercise their Constitutional (and, as you see it, God-given) right to terminate their pregnancies for a mere $5,000, or roughly 0.1% of your estimated  net worth.

FFRF Co-President Dan Barker, above, said:

It’s an embarrassment to our nation that White is a government employe. If White doesn’t step down, Trump should fire her. Such primitive thinking, superstition and bigotry should have no place in 21st century U.S. governance.

The FFRF said in a statement that on Friday, January 24, the same day Trump became the first President to address the anti-abortion March for Life rally in Washington, DC, Right Wing Watch posted video of White appearing to wish miscarriages for a certain category of pregnancies defined by her. The “off-the-wall sermon” was given to the congregation at New Destiny Christian Center, an Apopka, Florida, megachurch, at which she was formerly senior pastor. She said:

In the name of Jesus, we command all satanic pregnancies to miscarry right now. We declare that anything that’s been conceived in Satanic wombs, that it’ll miscarry. It will not be able to carry forth any plan of destruction, any plan of harm.

Following widespread criticism, White claimed the reference was taken from Ephesians 6:12 and “metaphorical.”

That doesn’t make it any more appropriate, FFRF contends.

FFRF condemned White’s appointment last year  to a paid position with the White House’s Faith & Opportunity Initiative, saying it was:

Yet another salvo by the Trump administration to breach the wall of separation between state and church.

"The same Newt Gingrich who was having an affair with his intern while, as Speaker ..."

Christian lawmaker blames atheists & gays ..."
"OY, another smarmy bible humper pushing religion, presumably to keep the bottom line from bottoming. ..."

"Only, of course, if you vote in a non-GOP sanctioned manner."

You realise we are probably looking at the 4th Mrs Trump?

This breaches the wall between sanity and raving lunacy.

  • Jim Jones

She’s a 4 at best. And she talks. And not foreign. Three strikes.

I think Trump likes them younger. You know, around daughter granddaughter age.

Libby Anne at Love Joy Feminism points out that the term is a longstanding Pentecostal metaphor. The real issues? A president shouldn’t have a “spiritual adviser” in the first place, as opposed to an adviser who is knowledgeable about the political implications of disputes among religions. And such an adviser shouldn’t, in an official role, be using terms that are meaningless to non-Pentecostals without at least explaining what they mean.

Good to see Dan Barker commenting. He is a former Christian and ditching the superstition took courage. I think the walls may be crumbling even amongst the priests in the C. of E. but who still want to pick up a pay check. I heard Thought for the Day this morning: a rare occurrence for me. The priest there said he disagreed with the “Bishops’ Conference” , a non event which rarely disturbs the thought processes and which never fails to embarrass. They decided that marriage could only be between a man and a woman and same sex marriages are not marriages.

Our man today disagreed, very gently, and he welcomed same sex couples in his congregation on the grounds that, “God’s love embraced everyone.” Big deal. Next question: “Why should same sex couple go to a C. of E. church when they have been rejected by the bishops.

Our USA friends will be interested, although probably not envious, as this example of the profundity of the thinking that is delivered to us every morning on our main Radio Channel. All non religious contributions, regardless of the eminence of the contributor are banned i.e. censored.

Yet another salvo by the Trump administration to breach the wall of separation between state and church.

No it wasn’t. It was a small gesture by a narcissist to insure that a group of people keep telling him how awesome he is.

  • Awesome post! Keep up the great work! 🙂

    Has fewer bankruptcies. Four strikes.

    Melania went bankrupt?

  • bentley

Regardless of belief, we should all be horrified that Trump has made this squalid predator a line item in the budget.

  • HematitePersuasion

I think Mr. Greaves has the right idea in responding to hypocritical grandstanding with grandstanding of his own.

    “Paula Trump”?

  • Freethinker

That “breach” already occurred in January 20th, 2017 when an uncouth carnival barker and a narcissistic professional conman and criminal stepped over the threshold of the White house.
Every timeline event, attached to this human excrement, no matter how absurd or existentially threatening thereafter, is just a consequence of the above tragedy.

  • Freethinker

    Morally, a long time ago.

  • Freethinker

She doesn’t look like Ivanka nor does she speak with a heavy Eastern European accent and is about two decades older than what he likes. However she does have the absolutely perfect last name for him.

  • bentley

No, that’s not it either. The Evangelicals want a forcefully anti-abortion, pro-Christianity president. He wants votes. He gives them what they want, they give him what he wants. In any case, putting that horrid creature on our payroll is no small gesture.

    Freudian slip, methinks!

Isn’t she supposed to be “Pro-Life”? Things get really complicated for rational people sometimes!
