Is there something lacking in your life right now? It could be any number of things:  a satisfying relationship, a better or new car, the job/career of your dreams, your bills paid and money in the bank. It could also be peace of mind, free from anxiety or depression. Our thoughts create our experience and we are responsible for the outcome. Many people balk at this, preferring to blame the Devil, the government, their parents or something else for their... Read more

Are you easily distracted? I am if I’m not holding an almost constant vigilance with my purpose. I suppose it might have something to do with that ADHD thing. So, yeah, some guys in white coats feel I have this inability to effectively give my attention to what’s in front of me. My family might agree. No, my family DOES agree. I don’t. We can’t allow a diagnosis or opinion to be a reason to think less of ourselves or... Read more

Have you changed your Facebook profile picture to the French flag? Many have. Thousands have been affected from the recent losses in Paris. No loss should be minimized, but when we highlight tragedy of any kind we give it power and energy. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be informed. But it does beg the question of just how many times we have to watch the same video feed or listen to the same report. And, as in the case of... Read more

Do you seem at times to be doing a lot, but accomplishing little? Working through a To Do list can end up being more of a chore than a triumph. If this has happened to you then perhaps it’s not the list but what’s on it. People often wonder why their goals are not realized or their prayers not answered. A major part of seeing our desires manifest is the commitment we exhibit to produce the end result. It’s very... Read more

Our thoughts become things. Most religious and spiritual beliefs teach this concept in one form or another. But what happens when tragedy or harm occurs in our life? Here’s what does NOT work:  “That’s horrible! What do you think was in your consciousness to cause THAT?” NOT cool … or kewl, either! I know because that’s what someone said to me the day after I received a gunshot wound in my face over twenty years ago. If hadn’t still been... Read more

Do you use affirmations? Or, do you understand what they are and how they work? The use of affirmations – short, meaningful, positive statements to focus our minds on a goal or desire – is taught widely. Louise Hay, the well-known New Thought minister and healing-focus writer, made affirmations an everyday word in 1984 when she released her classic book, “You Can Heal Your Life.” But do affirmations really work? Many people in my field would probably say, “YES!” with... Read more

Can we have everything we want? I’ve often said that we can have everything we want, but we just can’t have it all at the same time. That seemed logical until recently. Turns out I’ve wrong all along. Mike Dooley of tut.com says the correct answer is, “Absolutely not!” He gives us “[three] areas in life that success can never be assured.” He calls this the “Bermuda Triangle of heartbreak and disappointment. 1. Insisting that specific people behave in specific... Read more

What do you do when you can’t do anything about an uncomfortable situation? At the moment I am sitting in an airport terminal without electricity and that includes air conditioning. In addition, the airline’s computer systems have gone down in three major cities, thereby causing a stoppage of all flights in the majority of their system. Passengers are looking at two-to-four hour delays and missed connections, resulting in cancelled plans. Everyone wants answers, but no one has any to give.... Read more

Do you like surprises? Your answer probably depends on what the surprise would be. I was recently someone’s “surprise” and she was not pleased at all! When the weather permits I read my spiritual materials and have my morning meditation outside. That was the case last week. I had just finished my meditation when I opened my eyes to find myself staring at a little chipmunk who’d just run out from under the hydrangea. She was apparently quite shocked to find... Read more

Are you against rape, child abuse and racism? I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that you are. None of these three issues in society today, or the many more you might think of, are anything we want to see more of. Ernest Holmes taught us that our words have an impact on our present and future. Why is that? It’s because our words, verbal or written, give physical, corporeal form to our thoughts. Our thoughts produce feelings and those emotional... Read more
