Married Couples And COVID

COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on lives, the economy, and many married couples.  In Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus, divorce rates have doubled.  This is particularly troubling as one of the casualties of the virus becomes the family.  One of the main causes of divorce in the United States are financial pressures.

This morning the labor department in the United States reported that another 2.1 million people filed for unemployment benefits.  Since the pandemic reached the United States 40 million people have lost their jobs.

Though there is an increase in unemployment benefits, for many there is still the added stress of being out of work.  Along with being out of work, normally comes a cut in pay.  This is very concerning when it comes to marriages throughout the country.

Recently I spoke with Ryan Verret of Witness to Love.  He and his wife Mary-Rose recently launched a virtual date night series titled Be the Light.  They initially meant it as a one off and only expected a couple hundred people to participate.  Imagine their surprise when 1,800 signed up.

The program was rolled out nationally and is a 5 day series.  The best part is the cost.  Free.  Marriage is a sacrament and is extremely important.  This is a good way to strengthen our marriages from our own homes.  Visit their website at witnesstolove.org to learn more and sign up.
