How many people do you have to kill before you’re not pro life anymore?

How many people do you have to kill before you’re not pro life anymore? That’s not a rhetorical question. I’m serious. How many?

If I offer you $50 to go shoot some random man on the street and you do it, but you quote Bible verses and wear a shiny cross and loudly proclaim how much you support the unborn, are you pro life? Or, are you a murderer?

If I am one of the 813 billionaires in this country and I offer to buy you an incredible job as a member of the United States Congress; a job  with enormous power and even more enormous responsibility for the lives of 350,000,000 people. If I give your spouse a made-up “job” doing nothing much that pays your family millions. If I gift you with junkets and dinners and lots of air time on slavering media that supports any lie you tell. If I demand that you  use the power of that job I bought for you to kill millions of the people you are sworn to care for and protect in order to get more money for me.  If you whine a little bit for public consumption, but you do it, you set the dogs on those innocent people and you kill them for me, are you pro life? Or, are you a murderer?

You claim that God put you in power. You go to churches who worship the same false god you follow and blather on about how you were “called” to run for office because “the other side” is so very evil and you’re so-so-so-so Christian and so-so-so-so pro life.

Then, you go back to the seat of power and you pass laws that kill people. And  you slander and lie about those who oppose you in doing it. And you quote Scripture at them and pray in public and wear your shiny cross. And you loudly proclaim that the people who die at your hand needed killing. And you claim that all of it is moral and just and righteous because you are “pro life.”

But … how many people do you have to kill before you’re not pro life anymore?

If you deliberately kill one person are you still pro life?

What if you deliberately kill millions of people? And you do it for money? Are you pro life?

Adolph Hitler banned abortions and contraception and enforced that ban with the death penalty. He made an exception for abortons for those of “inferior” races, but he was demonstrably and by any measure far more anti-abortion than the Weimar Republic he destroyed. Was Hitler pro life?

Pinochet passed an absolute abortion ban in Chile. He “disappeared,” tortured, murdered and unjustly imprisoned millions. Was Pinochet pro life?

Mussolini banned both abortion and contraception. But he backed Hitler and waged needles wars that killed millions. Was Mussolini pro life?

I could go on with examples of murdering tyrants who banned abortion and also contraception. But why belabor it? The point I’m making is simply this: Life begins at conception, but it does not end at birth.

You can oppose abortion for all sorts of reasons besides the sanctity of human life. If you oppose abortion but pass laws that kill the poor in order to give more money to billionaires, you are not pro life. You are committing legislative murder, and you are doing it for money.

If you pass abortion bans and then let women bleed to death in hospital parking lots, you are not pro life. You just hate women. You are committing legislative and judicial murder.

People in Sudan, many of them persecuted Christians, are going to starve to death because Trump deep-sixed USAID. The Republican-majority Congress could stop this. If you cut off food to people who you know will starve to death because of your action, you are not pro life. If your job gives you, not just the power, but the responsibility to stop this mass starvation of innocent people and you do nothing, you are not pro life. You are a murderer.

The budget Republicans are passing into law this week will cut off medical care for millions of their own constituents. They are doing this in order to give more billions to the 813 billionaires in this country. Many of these people who lose their medical care will die. Many of them will go blind, lose legs or arms, become cripples because they didn’t get the medical care that would have made them whole.

They are being murdered and maimed by elected officials who quote the Bible, wear huge crosses, go to political prayer breakfasts and stand up and campaign in right wing churches. Every single one of these murdering politicians claims they are pro life. They claim they are pro life because they oppose abortion so much they’ll let the babies’ mothers die as punishment for being female. They’ll let you die for the crime of not being a billionaire.

I ask you: How many people do Republicans have to kill before they aren’t pro life anymore?

How many times can you support people who kill people and vote for them and put them in power before you aren’t pro life anymore?

Life begins at conception. But it doesn’t end at birth.

How many people do you have to kill before you aren’t pro life?
