Hello 2025! A new year with a blank canvas for everyone. Sure, you will be receiving those new year plans, and new year resolutions from friends this week. Studies show that many of the new year resolutions will be broken by next month. For believers in Christ- our new year is guaranteed in God’s hands. This post title leads to the power of Joshua 1:8, “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein. For then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

The Samurai were a special class of warriors that arose in the 10th century in Japan. These skillful warriors performed military service until the 19th century. They were highly trained warriors that were adept in using the bow and sword. For every believer that makes the Word of God a top priority for living, each one becomes a skillful warrior adept in completion and thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:17).

This level of Samurai skillfulness does not happen automatically. It takes intentionality to read, study, meditate, and obey the Word of God daily– whether it is convenient or not. In the similar manner of the Samurai warriors, believers in Christ have a mandate to take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17).

Needless to say, reading, studying, meditating and obeying God’s Word daily sets the foundation for a powerful and impactful 2025 for every follower of Christ who is determined to put God first every single day. The days we live in calls for Samurai level believers, who are skilled in the applications of the Word of God for their daily lives. This skillfulness is not knowledge based- rather it is living based.
As we thank God for bringing us into a new year, let us determine to be skillful doers of God’s infallible Word, as we pray God’s Word, declare God’s Word and do great exploits because of God’s Word living in and through each of us. Only those that know their God shall be strong, and do exploits (Daniel 11:32b) in 2025. And to know our God, comes with spending both quality and quantity time with Him. For new believers, an easy way to study God’s Word daily is using a type of devotional- daily verses (this plan will ensure you have studied 365 verses at the end of the year), daily audio Bible reading plan and reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Whatever Bible plan works best for you, be consistent in your daily pursuit of a God that loves you dearly, sweetly and kindly! Happy New Year Patheos Friends!
