September Brings Cooler Weather
Welcome to the month of September dear Patheos friends! The first day of fall is just three weeks away. Though it’s not officially fall, our Texas weather has been cooler than usual the past few days. Many of our areas have been blessed with much needed rain. The month of September brings us notable celebrations and observations. On this first day of the month, hardworking Americans pause with an additional day of rest observing Labor Day. A day that workers can be fully satisfied in the nobleness of their work (“A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied” – Proverbs 13:4). Prayers of rest in spirit, soul, and body for all workers that take great pride in making a difference through their work. There are more observances and celebrations that come with September. From National Macadamia Nut Day to Star Trek Day, Patriot Day and many more, September ushers in the last quarter of this year. And a Happy Birthday blessing to everyone celebrating this month.
Is It Possible To Be An Enemy of God?
Thank you for your engagement in the last post. The feedback is an indication of the importance of faith to many Christians globally. As things turned out, this post is a continuation from the last one as we examine the possibility of being an enemy of God without even knowing it. We had another tragic incident happen, this time at a school in Minneapolis. An incomprehensible act of violence that claimed innocent lives and injured many. It is remarkable how the church collective are rallying round everyone affected and impacted by this horrific act in both prayer and practical comfort to the precious families affected.
Prayer Is Spiritual
What has added to the communal grief of many followers of Christ is the hatred and distain from public figures towards prayer. Who would have thought and believed that united Christian prayer for victims of tragedy in Minneapolis would be a point and source of hatred in America! It is unbelievable that some public figures or politicians think prayer is pointless. It makes us think back to the horrific attack many of us witnessed on our TV screens on September 11, 2001. It was prayer that held us together as a nation. It was public prayer that paved the way for healing for our nation. No matter the political values held, everyone came together to pray for the precious families of the 9/11 attack and our nation.
The Supernatural Nature of Prayer
Fast forward to September 2025, it seems we have lost that unified conviction about the power of prayer. Anyone that has been the recipient of unified prayer knows firsthand the effect of prayer on the body, soul, mind and spirit. Prayer is supernatural, because it is not human based. Rather it is God-based, God-focused, and God-breathed. Prayer is God intervening in human pain, ushering in supernatural balm plastered over the pain. Prayer is God stepping in to bring supernatural calm over shattering minds. Prayer is God reaching out with supernatural strength over debilitating souls. Prayer is actual work that brings supernatural resources to earthly needs. As Oswald Chambers eloquently states. “Prayer does not fit us for the greater works; prayer is the greater work.”
Let’s Watch And Pray
Could it be possible that the very politicians demeaning and belittling prayer, actually know the power and effect of prayer themselves? However, in a time that faith is under attack, it is much easier for them to come against the very move that can bring peace amid unimaginable pain for those affected. Patheos, friends, you get to see this for what it really is, since many of you know firsthand the effect of prayer in your own lives. Let’s be wary when politicians start denouncing the power of God. Let’s be wary when politicians take a jab at holy things. Let’s be wary when politicians show a blatant disregard for God. For followers of Christ on the other hand, let’s watch and pray. And we must pray and plead for God’s mercies because it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrew 10:31).
