Part 2

  1. Find a Mentor

Jesus said, “Can a blind man guide a blind man?’ Wouldn’t they both end up in the ditch? An apprentice doesn’t lecture the master.” ( Luke 6:40 MSG) Jesus was a mentor to His twelve disciples. They couldn’t have done what they did with His guidance. Having a mentor to help guide us along God’s path is not only biblical but necessary. We need each other. God made us relational beings to share in the pain and the joy along this life’s path. Choose wisely – one who follows the Holy Spirit. Follow wholeheartedly. Always remain steadfast to Jesus.

  1. Protect Your Heart

We don’t protect worthless things. Your heart is a priceless treasure. It is the essence of who you are. It’s worth protecting. Jesus said, “A person full of goodness in his heart produces good things; a person with an evil reservoir in his heart pours out evil things. The heart overflows in the words a person speaks; your words reveal what’s within your heart.” (Luke 6:45 VOICE)

  1. Be Obedient to God’s Word

Complying with God’s Word builds a firm foundation. Jesus said, “If you work The Word into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who dug deep and laid the foundation of his house on bedrock. When the river burst its banks and crashed against the house, nothing could shake it; it was built to last. But if you just hear my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a dumb carpenter who built a house but skipped the foundation. When the swollen river came crashing in, it collapsed like a house of cards. It was a total loss.” (Luke 6: 48-49 MSG)

A wise person will hear the message and put it into practice. It’s not enough to just read God’s word. It’s not enough to just do Bible studies. We need to put them into practice. We need to live it out every day. This should be the very foundation of our life.

  1. Be Under Authority

Being under authority means that you are working with permission from the one who holds the power. The centurion came to Jesus and told Him of his servant who was paralyzed and in terrible suffering. He came to Jesus for healing. Jesus heard his request and agreed to go visit the servant. The centurion, however, understood the power of authority and would not allow Jesus to go, “Just give the order and my servant will get well. I’m a man under orders; I also give orders. I tell one soldier, ‘Go,’ and he goes; another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” (Luke 7:8 MSG) He understood what it was to be under authority. He knew Jesus was under authority and only needed Jesus’ command to heal his servant.

What are you doing to put Jesus on display? He gives you His authority, how will you use it?

  1. Finish Well

Those who finish well have a focused life. They are focused first on God, but second on the task that He has given to them. Even as God’s messengers we will fail. Remember He is strong in our weakness. “No. But I am with you; that is all you need. My power shows up best in weak people.” (2 Corinthians 12:9 TLB) If we ask it will be given. (Matthew 7:7 TLB)

We don’t always get to know the outcome of our role as messengers of God, but if we cling to God in our pursuit of peace, are careful not to judge while forgiving graciously, surround ourselves with like-minded people protecting our hearts from the ways of this world and are patient to listen and then obedient to act under God’s authority, we will then be able to walk with our heads held high and finish well the task at which God has called us.

May these ten tips help guide you and keep you on God’s path as you sit and listen to what He has to say. May you be ever so disciplined to write down His messages and be faithful to share them.  Obedience will give a standing ovation.
