Even though Trump says that he’s losing because of election fraud, he knows it’s not true. And all the Congressional Republicans who either support his allegations, or are keeping quiet, know it’s not true.
The people who really believe it are the Trumpies…all those folks out there who are so outraged by the “stolen” election. They have bought the package and drunk the Kook-Aid. (not a misspelling)
The courts have thrown out Trump’s lawsuits. Some of them were withdrawn voluntarily by the legal teams when they could provide no evidence of election fraud. In a hilarious incident in Pennsylvania, Rudy Giuliani argued without evidence that there was a massive conspiracy behind Joe Biden’s victory even though there were no such allegations in the Trump campaign’s actual lawsuit. From the LA Times:
“It’s a widespread, nationwide voter fraud,” Giuliani said. He accused local election officials of being part of a “little mafia” and preventing Republican Party observers from watching ballots being counted. He said only cities “controlled by Democratic machines” had problems, and “you’d have to be a fool to think this is an accident.” But under questioning from U.S. District Judge Matthew W. Brann, Giuliani admitted, “This is not a fraud case.”
What’s going on here? Why did Giuliani make a total fool of himself in front of a judge? He’s not that stupid, at least I don’t think so. There was another reason. He knows that his statements will be picked up by Fox and Breitbart and the other Right Wing outfits and broadcast all over the country. The fact that he later denied them will not be in those blasts.
I think there is a strategic reason for all of this. It’s not about proving election fraud. It’s about sowing distrust of the election process. Why would they want to do that? It all gets back to the Electoral College. The assignment of Electors is up to the state government. What all these court cases and media blitz are trying to accomplish is to give the legislatures in a few critical states an excuse to ignore the popular vote for Biden in their states, and pick Electors who will vote for Trump.
In plain words, they want to steal the election by subverting the democratic process. And Trump and his co-conspirators are trying to give them room to do it. If they succeed, it’s the end of any semblance of legitimate government by the people in this country. It says that a few corrupt politicians can do whatever they want and to Hell with the people.
To those who would say that those corrupt politicians can be voted out of office, it’s not that simple. In many of those states, the voting districts have been Gerrymandered to disenfranchise Democratic voters, and voter ID laws are deliberately designed to make registration very difficult, especially for minority voters. Overturning that whole system of voter suppression will not be a quick and easy process.
It’s outrageous, but not surprising, that the people who profess their patriotism the loudest are the ones who are cynically subverting the democratic processes of our government.
There hasn’t been much in the media about this. It’s all about Biden’s victory. I think ignoring this looming danger is foolish. There should be a lot of articles warning about the rude awakening that’s coming on December 3rd when the Electoral College convenes.
There is a lot more to say about this. Stay tuned.
