Amazon and the Future of the High Street (and Everything Else)

Amazon and the Future of the High Street (and Everything Else) April 9, 2021

Personally, Amazon worries me, but I need it and use it, though I am trying to minimise my use. I could bore you with how they are seeking to monopolise book publishing services, enabled with their algorithms, to the detriment of competitors. I could bore you talking about ebook monopolisation. We could also talk about how they are essentially controlling large swathes of the internet with their AWS (Amazon Web Services). In this video (I am a big fan of Novara Media, especially since the UK is soon to be inundated with right-wing news services with huge clout), Aaron Bastani looks at the future of the high street, and gives some interesting analysis (certainly in the last third of the video) on supply chains and Amazon’s positioning.

Hopefully, this should generate some interesting discussion.
