A Lenten Christmas Story

A Lenten Christmas Story March 21, 2015

Those of us of a certain age will immediately recognize the unique, soft yet powerful, voice of broadcaster Paul Harvey.

He was truly one-of-a-kind. A gifted storyteller, spanning decades, who could weave colorful, vivid images. Often left transfixed, we’d find ourselves grabbed by his hand as he led us through to the other side, to the “rest of the story.”

A five minute exploration of our world. A deep reflection of our lives.

I heard this story for the first time only two weeks ago.

Yes, Paul Harvey meant it as a Christmas Story. But it’s fitting too, I think, during these days of Lent, as they rapidly come to an end. There is still sufficient time remaining to more deeply contemplate who we are.

And, of course, whose we are.

I leave you with only the briefest excerpt below. Please click on the link and listen to how the story unfolds in Paul Harvey’s masterful hands.

And then take it all in.

[H]e realized that they were afraid of him. To them, he reasoned, I am a strange and terrifying creature. If only I could let them know that they can trust me. That I’m not trying to hurt them, but to help them. But how? Because any move he made tended to frighten them, confuse them. They just would not follow. They would not be led, or “shooed” because they feared him.

Peace
