Sometimes We Have to Step Outside Of Ourselves To See Others

You don’t know me.

We’ve never met.

But what if you did know me?

What if you knew that

I am not shielded from pain?

Or that I have a voice

That you can’t yet hear?

Would you feel any differently?

Did you know that I can hear you?

And that my thoughts are mine?

Thoughts which dispatch awkward movements, yes.

But even so, movements which incessantly probe

The harmony of my own mind, my own spirit, my own being.

All very much like yours, of course.

So – what if you knew?

Or do you already know?

And does that knowing make any difference?

Father and maker of all, you adorn all creation with splendor and beauty, and fashion human lives in your image and likeness.

Awaken in every heart reverence for the work of your hands, and renew among your people a readiness to nurture and sustain your precious gift of life – USCCB.org
