There’s a new article that those who think my son and his peers are abominations will soon be spreading online. “I’m a Pediatrician. How Transgender Ideology Has Infiltrated My Field and Produced Large-Scale Child Abuse“. As you read this it will sound alarming and appear to have facts. It is, however, full of agenda and misinformation.
This is written by the president of the American College of Pediatricians. The name, by design, is meant to be confused with the American Academy of Pediatrics. It is a conservative organization that was founded after the AAP supported same sex marriage. The American College of Pediatricians is not an objective scientific collaboration looking after the best interests of children. This is an anti LGBTQIA organization defending their religious views that are not the views of all followers of Christianity.
This group stands alone against the vast majority of the scientific, medical, and psychiatric community. Most of their research is either twisted or manipulated data taken out of context. They often use aged data already proved to be incorrect. Sometimes they use internally created data or feed off of partners. Partners like the “Alliance for Therapeutic Choice and Scientific Integrity.” This last group in quotes sounds like a legitimate organization, right? You likely know this group under it’s former name, The National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH). Narth is an “ex-gay” organization that has rebranded itself in the wake of many legal challenges and reputation sliding.
“Ex-gay” therapy has already been proved to be harmful to children. “Reparative” therapy is banned in several states for minors (we need more to follow suit). Both these groups accuse most of the scientific, medical and psychiatric community of having an agenda. They accuse the rest of the world of being abusive to children. Furthermore, the author of the article and both organizations calls each and every parent who supports their LGTBQIA children abusive.
In a few days I am going to provide some information that will be helpful in vetting groups and information you see online. The current article and both groups I have mentioned are labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and are truly fringe organizations.
They wrap hate and poorly researched data into reasonable sounding names. Then they toss it in a story with some alarming hyperbole and they get Facebook shares. If you tell the truth, and do so comprehensively and exhaustively, it is not sexy enough to go viral. That is the reality. And this group and author know that.
***Authors Correction! In my originally published draft I stated most states have outlawed conversion therapy for minors. That was not factual and has brought to my attention. To see the states and municipalities that protect minors from this barbaric practice, click here. Special thanks to reader and friend, Adele S for the correct information.)***
