Abortion – Show me the Money!

Abortion – Show me the Money! May 19, 2007

Ready for a couple of simple statements?

First — Stop all government money that finds its way to the abortion industry and the number of abortions will decrease.

Second – but not dealt with in this post: Track back the funding for abortions and block it (with education, social pressure and legal means) and the number of abortions will decrease.

Yes, I believe that it will be best when the laws finally change to protect the lives of our unborn babies. (The picture to the left is a baby at 20 weeks)

It only makes sense that we work to stop any government monetary support. It is a good first step towards a change in the law. I believe it is one obvious and sensible first step out of this mess Roe vs Wade has seeded. It might also be acceptable to many who consider themselves pro-choice. We have all heard, “It isn’t morally acceptable to me but each person should have the right to make their own decision.” But allowing government monies to go toward any “health care” that includes abortions is a direct misuse of our taxes. It is no longer purely a personal choice but a government-condoned action.
Our government is in place to protect each person’s life and liberty. We must continue to work for the protection of lives in utero. But, since the law won’t change tomorrow – what to do to hasten it along and in the meantime?

Just a quick FYI:

  • I wonder if people realize that a federal law protects unborn Bald Eagles? How is that for an incongruous “right to life”? http://www.fws.gov/midwest/eagle/protect/laws.html
Our tax money is spent to save the lives of eagles but not human beings.

My perspective:

  • I come from a fairly strong Libertarian perspective (Obviously Libertarian For Life). I believe that individual well-being, prosperity, and social harmony are fostered by as much liberty as possible and as little government as necessary.
  • I agree with Charles Murray when he says, “. . . people should be able to live their lives-as individuals, striving to realize the best they have within them; together, cooperating for the common good without compulsion. It is a vision of how people may endow their lives with meaning-living according to their deepest beliefs and taking responsibility for the consequences of their actions.”

The Libertarian Case Against Abortion

1. Human offspring are human beings, persons from fertilization.
2. Abortion is homicide — the killing of one person by another.
3. There is never a right to kill an innocent person. Prenatally, we are all innocent persons.
4. A prenatal child has the right to be in the mother’s body. Parents have no right to evict their children from the crib or from the womb and let them die. Instead both parents, the father as well as the mother, owe them support and protection from harm.
5. No government, nor any individual, has a just power to legally depersonify any one of us, born or preborn.
6. The proper purpose of the law is to side with the innocent, not against them.

Facts to ponder:

  • Seventeen states fund (through Medicaid) abortions for low-income women on the same or similar terms as other pregnancy-related and general health services.
  • The State of California pays the costs of childbirths and abortions for low income women.
  • In 1984, Republican President Ronald Reagan instituted a policy of not providing U.S. taxpayer money to international organizations that perform or promote abortions. In 1993, Democrat President Bill Clinton overturned this policy. In 2001, Republican President George W. Bush reinstated it.
  • Former Mayor of New York and current candidate for the Republican Party Presidential nomination Rudy Giuliani made donations to abortion-rights advocate Planned Parenthood at least six times during the 1990s. This information was included on Giuliani’s tax returns and became public knowledge as soon as he decided to release those forms as part of the sunshine ethics of running for President.

Education becomes meaningful only when the message of knowledge is spread to the people in its real form. — Blessed Mother Teresa
