A major earthquake (early reports suggest a magnitude of 7.9) that has claimed a number of lives has struck just a few miles off the coast of Peru, southeast of Lima. Seismologists are fearing a tsunami has already hit southeastern Peruvian coastal towns, and another could possibly hit Hawaii. Please keep the people of Peru and Hawaii in your prayers…pray for their safety and, if necessary, that they find safe haven.
Update: The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has cancelled its initial tsunami watch and warning for Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Coloumbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, Hondurus and Hawaii. Thanks be to God!
Update 2: Pope Benedict XVI has requested that the world offer its prayers for the people of Peru.
