Tough Advertising

Tough Advertising December 11, 2007

In our capitalistic society, advertisers must find new and unusual ways to attract attention to the products they want to push. We are thrust with more and more, worse and worse, advertising campaigns. Marketing people justify it by saying, “We just want to make sure people know what options they have, so they can exercise their free will better than if they don’t know their options.” But this ultimately means that advertisers see themselves as having the right to break all sense of boundaries between themselves and the people they want to advertise to. Even one’s serene, “private thoughts” can seemingly be interrupted for the sake of advertising, as for example, we see coming from A&E’s newest billboard.

What will they think up next?
