Who am I? Why am I Here?

Who am I? Why am I Here? January 4, 2008

Hello all. Some of you may remember me from a post I did here a while back on health care, or from my many many brilliant and insightful comments on this blog. One of my new year’s resolutions this year was to put down in some kind of systematic written form my thoughts on Catholic Social Thought, and the kind folks here at Vox Nova have graciously allowed me to join their blog to that purpose.

I am a 29 year old unmarried lawyer and Catholic convert, originally from Austin, Texas. Politically I would describe myself as conservative, sometimes as libertarian, though both terms have a lot of baggage associated with them that I’ve found leads people to make assumptions about me that aren’t true (for the record: no, I don’t want to nuke Mecca, and yes, I do have a job). It also doesn’t help that I change my mind a lot. Mainly I would describe myself as a questioner. I like to look at issues from different angles, and think that you can never really know a positions strength until you know its weaknesses. I try always to be reasonable and respectful of others, but to not take myself too seriously and keep a sense of humor about things (something all to easily lost when discussing politics). I don’t always succeed, but I try. The rest, as they say, is commentary.
