Big Day for Catholic Schools

Big Day for Catholic Schools March 21, 2008

Like many of you, I have relegated the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament to the backseat during this most Holy Triduum. Incidentally (and I hope not Providentially), my Aggies play UCLA tomorrow night while I will be at an Easter Vigil Mass. Yes, the climax of the Catholic Church’s liturgical year trumps even a projected Texas A&M upset of a #1 seed.

I accidentally (and maybe Providentially) caught sight of today’s scores because a little shop at which Katerina and I stopped in had ESPN going on a small TV. It was a big day for some Catholic schools! Georgetown, predictably, moved on in the tourney, while Siena, San Diego and Villanova pulled off big upsets. Could it have been because it’s Good Friday? Probably not…Gonzaga, St. Mary’s, St. Joseph and Mount St. Mary’s got squashed. In any case, I look forward to the Sweet 16 when I’ll be able to watch the tourney in good conscience!

By the way…I’ve got Georgetown winning it all.
