Rediscovering Traditionalism

Rediscovering Traditionalism 2017-04-22T20:38:44-05:00

John Casey has written an informative article about the rediscovery of traditions – something that T.S. Eliot suggested must be found once again, with great struggle, in every age. He labels the Holy Father a “philosophical traditionalist,” and writes of the always present cultural struggles:

For Ratzinger, this special blend of Judaism, Greek philosophy and Romanitas is essential to the Church, an idea that Luther scorned. So it is almost literally unthinkable that a genuine liturgy could be fabricated, rather than grow out of immemorial tradition.

Hat tip: Irenaeus, a Protestant pastor and professor considering conversion…and like me before entering the Church, attracted to the spiritualization and transcendence of the physical.
