Easter Chantey

Easter Chantey April 24, 2011

I wrote this song when my kids were little, more to have something to do while commuting than anything else.   They loved it, and it is now our tradition to sing it every Easter.  Following the Wesley brothers, I have set the words to a popular tune:  in this case the sea chantey, “What do you do with a drunken sailor.”  Enjoy!  Christ is Risen!

(Chorus)
Hooray! Up he rises!
Hooray, up he rises,
Early Easter morning.

Where is he now, the lamb of God?
Where is he now, the lamb of God?
Where is he now, the lamb of God>
Early Easter morning

Out of the grave and to his Father,
Out of the grave and to his Father,
Out of the grave and to his Father,
Early Easter morning.

Chorus

Where is thy sting, o bitter death? x 3
Early Easter morning.

Broken and cast onto the ground x 3
Early Easter morning.

Chorus

Why do you sing, you sons of Adam? x 3
Early Easter morning.

Crushed and burned the yoke of Satan x 3
Early Easter morning

Chorus

What is your joy, o ancient prophets? x 3
Early Easter morning.

We have seen the branch of Jesse x 3
Early Easter morning.

Chorus
