God Beyond ‘God’

God Beyond ‘God’

Jesus’: Name above all names.

The ‘Word’ is the Word above—and beyond—all words.

Ineffable.

Unspeakable.

Speechless.

Silent.

Shouting.

To say that God is beyond the sign ‘God’ is not a statement nor an argument: it is an invitation into mystery, into the mystery.

Notice: the markings on this screen guide you, but the thing they are trying to say cannot be spoken—or written.

They must be shown, given, revealed.

These markings, that weave lines and things we call ‘letters,’ that sit in a posture we call ‘writing,’ hide and conceal something deeper: something beyond what they can show, give, or reveal.

The beyond is calling out from where we cannot go.

God is not only beyond all other gods—God is beyond ‘God.’

God in excess: an ocean poured into a thimble, but bigger and smaller—indeed, beyond the very concept of “size.”

Now, God beyond ‘God’ does not abandon us to the poverty of our expression, to wallow in our miserably inadequate shapes and colors: these markings, lines, and squiggles that form things we call ‘words’ and ‘sentences’ and build things we call ‘books,’ sign us towards a reality that is the greatest sign, the only cup we can drink from with hope—LOVE, Love, love.

What is God beyond ‘God’?

Everything, both said and unspeakable—and beyond the very phenomenon of speech and speaking. (Beyond being?)

What can possibly hold a single drop of this “everything”?

Love.
